  • The cops thought I stole my own car! (Long)

Im not sure how this fact was going to help her case, but it makes for a nice story and is rather long.

The rundown I get before I take the escalated call:
SC wants to us to cancel her cell phone and waive all current charges and the early termination fees. Her claim is that she gets no service in her home. Location- Los Angeles ((this is not the exact location... it was a suberb of LA but LA is a HUGE freaking city anyway))

I take a glance at the account notes and usage for the past few months. Regardless of what the call is I always did that. This easily supports what the agent was telling me. The account has a history of past due bills and overages. No way this woman is getting any credit other than the offer of 25.00 courtesy that she was already offered and declined. This offer exists just to get these crazy nuts off the phone and out of our call center. When she escalated all that went out the window as I wasnt going to give her anything at all.

The reasons she gives me for why I should honor her request are:
    1. She gets no service in her home.
    2. All the usage is on her husbands phone when he goes to work.
    3. Its to expensive
    4. The cops thought she stole her own car!

Im not going to even try to recall the entire conversation, if I had the ability to remember that much bull hockey I would no doubt lose whats left of my sanity that allows me to function in society. Lets just say it was a long call. I do remember facts that she herself told me and this lets me know that the Suck was indeed strong in this one.

Reasons that I wouldnt give her anything:
    1. The majority of usage was on her line, not her husbands. They had been exceeding thier monthly allowance for 4 months straight and hadnt paid the most recent bill so she had two months bills due. She had a plan that includd over 2000 minutes daytime, she was going over by 1000 minutes on average.

    2. Her husband could only use his phone at work and not at home, but they were having trouble paying bills because he was not working. (When lying about your idiocy in an effort to get me to do you a favor, it helps when you keep your lies straight and consistent.)

    3. They didnt know that they would get overages or that there would be a cancelation fee because she 'Didnt read the contract', I think we hear that one a lot.

    4. This is the fun part- She told me that the police thought she stole her own car. No report (according to her) was ever filed with the police stating that her car was stolen. There is no explanation as to why they thought this). The reason I should give her what she wants is because she claims she couldnt call her husband because she had no service on her phone and this caused her to get really scared. Because she was surrouned by over 20 police officers who were all pointing guns and shotguns at her and yelling at her to get out of her car.

Now.. with this last point, Im thinking she is either lying her a$$ off, or one of the dumbest alive. I cant imagine that anyone who doesnt have a deathwish would be reaching for anything other than the sky if over 30 of LAPDs finest were pointing guns at you unless you desired and lead enema. Lets face it... LAPD is not known for thier ever present kindness when dealing with criminals. But if she was so notorious that she had 20 or 30 officers after her then she wouldnt have been talking to me that day.

Side note: I did offer to rerate three months back for her on a higher plan to help with overages. But she declined that even though it would have saved her about 800 bucks.

Okay, to be perfectly fair, L.A. is notorious for having many "dead spots" for cell phone reception.

Which she may have used outside of her home. I know a few people here in Key West, where cell phone reception is generally excellent, who get piss poor to no reception in their homes. I am fine at home, but one of my favorite bars is a well-known dead zone--on my current phone I get a small signal in there, on my old phone, I got none.

Which throws any other excuses she may have right out the fucking window.

This I could see. I certainly am not the only person that has locked themselves out of their vehicle and then had to creatively break in to it! And let's face it, that can look rather suspicious.

And this has what, exactly, to do with her non-payment? Oh, right, I forgot: not a damn thing!

(By the way, what the hell was she doing to get 20+ officers to draw their weapons on her? Seriously?)

I love how some customers think you're just sitting at a desk with nothing in front of you but a phone.

The best is when they keep calling to get someone new, and there's a note from every single attempt.

Cell phone company can make a big difference in service area, as well. When I had Sprinters, I could not get a call in or out of my sister's house. Now that I have the Death Star, I get perfect reception there.

And I agree: the story about the car is a load, and a histrionic one at that.

She should have cut her losses, and accepted the $800 discount.

I see a service disconnection in her future. Not going to help hubby who's looking for a job.

Best thing for this chatty cathy: pre-paid.

Per-paid would mean she'd actually have to PAY her bills, which is clearly not something she makes a practice of.

i'm seeing cancellation and collections in her future; why is it so hard to understand services come with fees?

Because she's so speshul! Don't you understand?! She deserves these services at a discount, free even, because she just does!

Very true. I imagine at some point she'll try a five fingered discount at Wally World for a throw away cell, rather than actually plunk any cash down.

I loved pre-paid. I got exactly what I paid for no more no less.

I have thousands of roll over minutes I will never use, even though the vast majority of my phone calls are for my hospice job. If I could pre-pay my minutes, then I'd just buy what I needed (and still take it off my taxes, since it's mostly a work phone).

Unfortunately for me, I bought a smartphone.

Which never made sense to me, since you'd still have to get the phone authorized before you could use it?

My guess about the cop story (aside from the EXTREME over-exaggeration) is that she got pulled over and didn't have the proper paperwork. If you don't carry proper ID, the police may suspect something suspicious is afoot.

I get problems with spotty reception too. Something about our apartment's walls blocks the signal to my phone, so that I have to either sit on my bed or hold my head just right in order to call from inside my house. I step outside and get full bars.

Beyond that, though, she sounds full of it.

When I was young, stupid and just got my drivers license I used to like to drive into Boston late at night. I was too young to drink and I didn't like the underage club scene but I LOVED driving (still do).

One night about 2AM I and a couple of friends see two well dressed guys parked in an alley I was driving through. I swung around the block and passed them three times going slower as I drove by them each time (trying to figure out what they were up to).

After the third pass we decide to head out of the city and back home. I made it one block then my car was surrounded by police cars, SWAT cars and paddy wagons. About 20-30 cops jumped out and surrounded my car with guns drawn. I did what I felt was natural in that situation, put my hands up froze and tried not to pee my pants.

I think we must have interfered with some sort of sting operation. After searching us, searching the car and having us stand around for over an hour they finally decided that slowly driving by a car was not an arrestable offense although I do remember one cop with enough gold braid that he could have been a four star admiral in the Navy tell me, "GET OUT OF BOSTON AND NEVER COME BACK!".

I've done that before. I know they keep records, but when an employee is stonewalling and refusing to even let me finish asking a question without interrupting me, I'm damn well gonna call back and speak to someone else. I will clearly and calmly state the reason I'm calling back to talk to someone else (and it's never so I'll get a different answer... I don't question stuff like that if they actually answer the question I called with!), explain to them the situation, and then ask for their feedback.

I've run into a couple of idjits in the last couple of weeks (trying to cancel my phone & internet service and switch to a new company) and it was very trying.
