  • Guests threatened to beat me up

I really don't feel like retelling this story again, so I'm copying and pasting what I submitted to Corporate, taking out the names, and presenting it to you:

At about 3am, I (bhskittykatt, MOD) woke up to do my paper route. I heard several cars driving around outside, but I did not think much of it at the time because our parking was rather full.

At 3:15, I stepped outside to leave, and I saw three cars double-parked in front of the motel. I asked Night Auditor ACW if she knew anything. She did not. I told her to see if we could get a tow truck on standby, and I walked around the property to see if I could determine ownership of the cars.

I heard loud voices coming from 221 (SC). I knocked. When they opened the door, there were at least a dozen people that I could see in the room. They did not open the door fully, so there were probably even more. I asked if those were their cars parked out front. They said no. I then said that all the extra guests needed to vacate, as we did not allow guests past 10pm. (Though no guests had complained, I could hear this room from the parking lot because they were all being loud.)

I watched the room for some time. Two of the three cars left. Only three people left in the car, so I had ACW call the room again and tell them they had five minutes to vacate or else the police would be called.

Two minutes later, people started leaving the room. I started walking towards them to have them quiet down. They seemed to quiet down on their own, so I stopped my approach. I called ACW on my cell phone to let her know they had been smoking in the non-smoking room, and to note that we needed to deep-clean it. One of the females of the group said, "Look there's the b----; she's calling the police! Should we jump her?" She huddled with two other female members of the group. I heard "Yeah, okay, let's get her", and they began to approach me. By now, ACW answered the phone. I began to walk towards the office and told her what was happening and to call the police. I went into the office and we locked ourselves in while we waited for police to arrive.

About 10 minutes later, City Police and University Police responded. At about the same time, a guest who identified himself as SC (but did not produce photo ID) said that he did not allow these people in the room and that he did not know them. We told him that he was responsible for what happened in the room and he would be asked to leave. Police went to evict the guests from the room.

While police were evicting the guests, another person claiming to be SC (but also not producing ID) came to the front desk and told us the exact same story as the first person claiming to be SC. We gave him the exact same answer.

(Note: key issue logs show that the only keys issued to room 221 were two keys issued at check-in; no further copies of keys to the room were ever made.)

Eventually, all the guests left at about 3:50am. I went to go warm-up my car. Four more cars arrived. People got out and were cursing and yelling and being loud. I called ACW and told her to call the police back. As it turns out, it was a different group, but from the same party. They left quickly after we realized they were not the same group that threatened us earlier (though one male from this group did act like he wanted to punch me; his buddy held him back and took him away).

It turns out, a club at University hosts a massive party each year. The police said that every year, some groups from the party cause trouble, and they had been chasing these groups all night. They were called away to break up another group from the same party. (I saw them later on my route breaking them up.)

There were no further incidents from those groups, or any other members of the larger party group.

Other things I did not include in my report: in addition to locking myself in the office, Hubby was getting ready to help me with my route, so on my way I snagged him and locked him up with me. Also, another guest was in the office at the time. I locked her in as well. (did not report that, since at that hour Corporate might not like the fact that there were non-employees in the office, but I was not going to let them be exposed to the group like that. I'd rather keep Hubs and the other guest safe and if Corporate doesn't like it, they can kiss it!)

Wow... After watching thins like Campus PD, you did the right thing I believe. It would have been silly to let the guest and your hubby be around them. Never know who the guests would think them to be and they could have gotten hurt.

I think corporate would look the other way in this instance as you were making sure those people were safe. Imagine if you were following the rules and they got injured?

I wish so, but you don't know my corporate. I do not have nearly that much faith in them.

Whether your corporate agrees or not, I think you did the right and wise thing. Protecting innocents from risk to their lives and wellbeing trumps - well, just about everything else.

After all, there is a liability issue here.

You need security for weekends like that. I've done it several times and I know how aggressive people will get with hotel staff, hell I've had to bring in cops and then back THEM up. You did the right thing by retreating to a secure location and bringing any innocent parties with you. I don't know about the legal aspect but I assume that on some level you would be held responsible for any injuries sustained by the other guest.
Telling a cop, "My taxes pay your salary!" is dumb.
Telling a cop you demand your shit without paying taxes is even more dumb.

I'm going to guess that the SC was named Spartacus since so many kept claiming to be the SC probably to protect him.

OT. I went to get breakfast at a cute 50's style diner across the street from a hotel I had just stayed at. I overheard the waitress telling her manager that if he didn't find someone for security that night she wasn't going to be working. Turns out they are the only place that stays open later than the bars, they get a wave of drunks when the bars close and fights break out on a nightly basis.

Made me feel bad about teasing her about a typo on the menu.

[2 eggs any style, home fries, bacon, ham and sausage or toast, english muffin and pancakes....I told her I would take the bacon, ham and sausage as I thought the toast, english muffin and pancakes would be too filling.]
