  • What NOT to do when you ask for a product

Story setup: A woman asked me if we had any more of a particular fabric softener in the back because there wasn't any on the shelf. I tell her that I did not know but I would call someone from the department and ask.

Her first not to do was to go look for something in another aisle while I was waiting for someone from the department to call and ask about the product.

She comes back as I finish talking to a store manager who tells me to page the grocery department manager to ask.
Unappreciative SC (UASC): So do you have it or not?
Me: I just paged the grocery manager. When he calls back or comes over here I will ask him.
    UASC: Are you new?
Me: No, I've been here almost 5 years. Why?
UASC: Well you see very tired and unhappy. *on her phone* These people here are so unmotivated.
Me: Sorry but I have a sore throat and I've been here all day (and being on Uscan is very draining because of people like her and the standard people who don't know what they're doing).
UASC: Well drink some fluids or something.
Me: We're not allowed to have drinks here.
*Grocery manager calls me at this point and I tell him the product she wants and he tells me he will look for it*
UASC: So am I getting the product? Where is it?
Me: He just told me that he doesn't know if we have it but he's going to look.
UASC: You don't even know if he's going to call you or come here?
Me (thinking what do I have ESP with him?): He'll look in the back and then either call me or come here with the product.
The UASC then proceeds to go back to the aisle where this product would be. ALL THE WAY in the back. The department manager calls me back a minute later and tells me we only have the largest size of it and if that's what she wants. I look for her but she's no where in sight. I see her all the way down the aisle and have to yell at the top of my lungs that I talked to him and we have the largest size bottle and if that's what she wanted. She says yes and that she wants just one, and I relay this to the manager who said he'll be right there.
Manager comes with the item and she just grabs it from him and doesn't say anything. After she pays for it and her other things, does she think to thank me for helping her get the product? Nope.

Seriously, I did all this to help find a product that we didn't have out (and a large portion of the time if something is not on the shelf it means we're out altogether) and all she does is complain about how I'm acting (at least I'm not being an unappreciative b*tch like she was) and walk around aimlessly instead of staying in place and waiting to see if we have it or not. I really shouldn't have expected a thank you, but it was certainly deserved for both me and the department manager.

I hate SC's like that, and they wont get off the phone and or have any patients with the fact that you your self are a lil sickley and can't understand why you look tired. I work 3rd so by the end of my shift im beat and just wanna go crash but im seasoned to 3rd so i look perky no matter what time a guest sees me. But whats really annoying is having to repeat your self when the SC WONT GET OFF THE DAMN PHONE!!! have some freaking curiosity for the people that are handling you. its like that movie waiting "don't F!@$ with the people that handle your food".

How were you unmotivated? You called the people who would be able to find out if you had any of the product. They got the answer she wanted. What a selfish jerk she was.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Exactly mooncat. I guess she was looking for me to be filled with glee that was making such a request? I usually send these people to customer service.

Or she was expecting you to go look for it yourself. I've heard a customer yell at one of our electronics associates for pointing her towards stationary instead of walking over there with her, when he was technically the only one covering electronics.
