Since I work in a convinence store everyone expect super fast service.
The other day I had a wonderful couple get annoyed I was having a quick conversation with a friend about needing to come over and check out some new toys he had in his barn while putting his money and cards back into his wallet. The woman of the couple said "EXCUSE ME, we are in a HURRY!!!!!!!!" (read: HOW dare you have some sort of a conversation with a friend because I've got things to do!!!)
So I make it a point to ring them up really fast. At which point the total comes to something along the lines of $7.61
The point where it gets interesting is when I the woman goes, "OH I have a penny!", then proceeds to spend 3 minutes (Yes I did watch the clock) looking for said penny in her purse, because I guess compared to many women I have seen with change littering the purse bottom, this woman must have literally only had a penny. This situation caused my brain to freeze up and require several attempting at rebooting.
1) YOUR IN A HURRY!, why are you wasting to much time looking for a penny.
2) We have automatic changers and special buttons on the POS for $5,10,20, which means it takes me longer to type 10.01
3) It was .61, not .01, which I could understand wanting to find a penny.
All and all, looking for a penny wasted significantly more time then the 15sec conversation I had. It was refreshing that the people behind her pointed out, "
