  • Yes, A deposit IS required for special orders

Alas, the bane of my existance on this world...

    SPECIAL ORDERS!!!

People out there just don't get the fact that NO, we do not carry every different power supply for laptops that exist or that the $800 piece of software isn't on hand.

The standard response of "are you sure you don't have it?" is my fave. I then bring the git up to speed on the fact that if we carried all power adapters (for example) for every laptop presently in use, we wouldn't have any room in the shop. It would be stacked to the ceiling, that's just if we had 1 of each. So, I in fact, am not trying to pull the wool over your eyes. It ain't here

And yes, we will want a deposit for your obscure item so that we aren't left holding a non-sellable item in our inventory. You pay, we order...Easy a pie

Of course I suggest that the could go online to order it faster that I can get it in, but they want to have someone to whine to personally...*sigh*

I take it more than a few of you have to deal with this also

    /endrant...again.

When I was working as a shipping clerk for the music store, we had a few orders for odd mouthpieces, well, for the division I worked for and we always charged for that piece. I'm think it was the whole amount and they took a while depending on the manufacturer. Anyway there were few times when they were canceled and it was okay becuase the mouthpiece wasn't made. We also did some plating (gold, satinize) on mouthpieces but I can't remember if we treated them as special orders or what.

The website I'm using to sell my crafts has a place where you can order custom things but I haven't had any yet but that gives me time to figure how the payment is to be handle.

Several months ago we had a customer in the store looking for installation parts to fit a 1982 DeLorean. Yes, laughing in her face was probably rude; but in the salesperson's defense I'm sure he thought she was joking. It was difficult to make her understand that not only do we not stock parts for that particular vehicle, we can state with complete confidence that no other car audio shop in town does, either.

Flux capacitors aren't a stock item? Are you sure? Have you checked the back?

Perhaps if she drove the car back in the past, she could find what she was looking for...
