  • It took 30 minutes into my first day....

So I (finally) found a new job. !

I'm back in retail after 5 years of food service. Specifically back to selling beer and wine...Hooray! Today was my first day working and not 30 minutes into my shift (training on the reg) I get my favorite joke:

"oh...If it doesn't scan, it's FREE! hyuk hyuk..."

It's been about 7 years since I've heard that last...and it was just as funny as I remember. Great welcome back to Retail!
Now, if you smell the roses but it doesn't lift your spirits, you're either allergic to rose pollen or you need medical intervention. ~ Seshat

    Yay work! Yay booze!
Hopefully, this means you won't get the 0-20 crowd, which eliminates some (only a little though) of the Sucky Customer problems.
However, it does create others. Like the Drunk Looking For Alchy.
"Is it the lie that keeps you sane? Is this the lie that keeps you sane? What is it?Can it be?Ought it to exist?"
"...and may it be that I cleave to the ugly truth, rather than the beautiful lie..."

Personally, I like the idea of keeping some notebooks near by, each labeled clearly on the front with one of the old cliche "jokes" that customers will use, and filled with several pages of hash marks. When someone thinks they are being original by repeating one of the jokes, you would pull out the appropriate notebook, flip slowly through the pages to the end, then add an additional hash mark with a sigh before putting the notebook back away and resuming the transactions.
