I never tell them it's a difficult customer fee...yikes! No I am always professional with my clients.

    ....

I try my best to be professional. You insult me or my work, then I will nicely tell you to shop somewhere else. Then I go and write it up here so we can all point and laugh. If you're nice to me, then I will bend over backwards to help you, or give you faster shipping or free pillowcases.

Doh! Sorry! Wasn't implying you weren't professional; just relishing the thought of how an SC would look if they found out what that extra money was for. I imagine it still must be nice as the owner to be able to adjust prices for situations like this...

It is, but as the owner I must only use my powers for good.

I don't charge more if I think people are weird, or I don't like thier hairstyle or username.

In fact I'm far more likely to give a discount to people who ask nicely then to use the difficult customer fee.

Maybe having the difficult customer fee already in the standard price, figuring that you could give them an awesome customer discount if they earn it. Never mention the fee of course.

So, would this be how you handle selling it on Etsy then, so she can't get it for standard price later? After all, you can always refund the difficult customer fee to people who aren't difficult customers at all.

Well actually, I have a baby and kids expo I'll be vending at about the time that that quilt is finished. I highly doubt it will even make it to my Etsy shop.

Which I highly recommend those of you closer to her look at. I did. She has great stuff - but shipping to Aussieland is prohibitive.

I've just had a look at your quilts and was thinking "As usual, someone who's way under-pricing their stuff". Then it struck me that it was Dollars, not Sterling, so it was about 60% of the prices I'd thought they were...
