  • No ID woman

Other MOD just has a guest get pissed off because we require ID to check a guest in. This woman had her ID, but she left it in her car, which she parked on the other side of the motel. I mean, why would you...? There's parking right in front of the office!

Ah, she's just walked back into the office. I heard her say to Other MOD, "I don't have an attitude, I just want to see my mom..."

I missed her when she first came into the office, so I can't vouch for that, but Other MOD said she was pretty unhappy and grumpy about having to retrieve her ID. I think I'm inclined to go with Other MOD on this one, sorry SC.

Okay people. Whenever you check into a hotel you need ID, a form of payment, and you need to be able to read things. (I get people who leave glasses in their car and get pissed that they have to retrieve those too.) Every hotel/motel/inn I've been to requires these three.

I know of one place in town that won't require ID, and I honestly would rather sleep in my car in a WalMart parking lot than stay there. (When we eat at the drive-in joint across the street, our entertainment is watching the cops running around that motel and arguing with their manager...)

lol. Oh thats happened to me so many times. And the answer is always simply "no". I find it the most amazing when they actually think you're dumb enough to think they're right when they say "no other hotel does it".

I don't get people who leave their ID in the car. I mean, if I'm buying something I always have it "just in case."

The only place I don't have my ID on me is at home. Its just a better idea to have it. Half the time, I think people who claim they left it in their car are just plain lying.

@chainedbarista: Thanks for the chuckle. Offtopic but your message combined with your sig made me laugh.

People who forget their IDs and glasses when they come into a hotel are as bad as people who make catalog orders without having their credit card handy.

Sometimes i worry i won't get a job at a nice hotel this year because the hotel I was at last year was the kind that didn't really check IDs.

...you need to be able to read things.
No, not really. You just need to be able to sign things. As long as you can see well enough to do that, you're really pretty fine.

I know, I know, you're supposed to read what you're signing. But let's be honest, not everyone, not even a majority of people, actually do.

You know it is weird..only when I went to Dragon Con did I have to show my ID at a hotel..never before. Of course I always have it on me/with me, but though I have stayed in many a hotel..I've had to show it a grand total of one time...maybe I am not staying in nice enough hotels?

And you're the one doing the checking in?

I've yet to ever check into a hotel without them requiring the ID of at least one guest assigned to the room. And a credit card, despite the convention specifically noting that all charges for my room would be on their bill (because there are never any charges, and they know there won't be).

Maybe some cheap Independent hotels don't require ID, however every hotel/motel I have ever stayed in has required ID from whose name is ever on the room.

I know it is weird..I'm always doing the check in..and the room is in my name. I do have to present a Credit Card, but only 1 time an ID with it. That was at the place I stayed for Dragon Con. Now mind you I've only stayed two places (though a couple of times in each) besides that. A local holiday inn express..and an Amerihost (spelling?)...

Wait that is not true, forgetting the one in Sterling, VA I went too..which I forget the name of..never had to show ID there though.

even 10 or 11 years ago when I did the road warrior thing for my company, I ALWAYS had to show a valid ID when checking into a hotel. and I stayed at quite a few in a 6 month period.
