  • Somebody has got to go...

BG - This happened over 7 (maybe longer) years ago, and most of the details are outright gone or fuzzy, I couldn't even hazard a guess as to any of the actual conversation. I was working as a CSM at Wally World.

A guy had been trying to chat up one of the cashiers for some time, and other CSM's had 'warned' him time and time again to stop. He kept coming back, and management wouldn't let us do much about it. I had just gotten my keys 'legally' (I had a code and keys for about 10 days before actually getting the promotion).
Now those of you who have seen some of my tales..know I don't exactly put up with idiots, sleeze, or sleezy idiots - /Bg

I was just coming back from switching out electronics till for the midnight change over, when one of the cashiers comes running up, telling me that 'HE' was back..and he had the cashier he had been hitting on backed up against the wall, and trapped. So, I rush to the front, and sure enough there he is, and there she is looking absolutely terrified.

I move in to stand RIGHT behind, him (I was a bit taller, and MUCH broader then he was) and cross my arms. I ask what exactly what the problem was.

Without looking back, he tells me to mind my own business, that he is trying to talk to the 'babe'.

Down comes my hand to his back (not hitting mind), and I turn him around..informing him that it WAS my business..and that the cashier didn't seem to want to chat. I ask him politely to leave. I wasn't angry yet.

He started on how he was a 'customer', and how I couldn't threaten him, blah blah blah.

I arched an eyebrow. "You thought that was a threat? I will ask you again..one last time..to leave the store."

Which of course was followed by how he was going to get me fired, arrested, etc. He was feeling very smug..

Until I lifted him by his shirt (the guy was a small guy, very thin..and I was a LOT stronger back then), and started carrying him out. He started freaking out, trying to struggle out of my grasp, kicking and the like..until he noticed that it not only was not doing very much good..but that I wasn't even really registering his hits. As in no reaction at all. Of course then came the 'This is assault, I'll call the police, etc' bit. I tossed him (yes litterally) outside, crossed my arms and told him. "Do not come back, you are not welcome." he left..of course with the "I was going anyhow" and threats of calling the police (which they never came to me..so )

I fully expected to get written up or fired..and I did get a good 'talking to' about not touching the customers..but in that one case..Wally World didn't make a mountain out of a molehill..and the guy never did come back.

Edit : I know more then that happened, but I honestly couldn't tell you what. It was way too long ago.

PS. When I get angry..(which I was by the time I lifted him by the collar) my strength increases, and an odd phenomenon occurs. I don't feel pain. At all. At least until much later. Sometimes I am completely unaware of things that should be causing me pain. Not that I am ignoring the pain..there is just nothing to ignore.

Could very well be. When I was much younger, I would get angry really easy..and even have blackouts. Usually when I 'came too', whatever fight I was in was over..and the other person got the worse of it. One time 3 older kids decided to gang up on me (I was I think 14-15, all three were 17-18 if I remember right). When I 'came too', one was gaping at me like I had just spouted three heads, one was outcold, and the other was running as fast as they could the other way. I don't remember anything of the incident other then that, but from my friends told me that I had scared THEM, and they were not the object of my anger.

That sucks that the girl wasn't allowed to work in peace.

That is a clear cut definition of a hostile work environment.

As someone who had to put up with that crap from creepy customers, I thank you for standing up for your cashier and putting a stop to that abuse.

Wish I'd had such a good manager; my manager at the time verbally agreed it was wrong but couldn't be bothered to do anything about it.

Wally World Corporate was about useless in the situation also. Refused to ban, etc. Basically it was "avoid him" was the only thing they ever said or did. I walked her to her vehicle for awhile after, but I never saw the guy again..and to my knowledge he never bothered her after that. She quit over something unrelated later.

according to my security officer training, that guy could have been charged with unlawful detainment of another person, if he had her trapped.

good job, i hope sleazer had to change his pants afterwards.

If an employee complains of ongoing sexual harrassment by a customer, and management refuses to do anything about it, they open themselves up to liability and a massive lawsuit.

Suppose I picked an employee at random, came in on his every shift and beat the crap out of him, would that be ok? What if I made a purchase every time I did so?

The store should not only ban SC, but get a restraining order as well.

Oh, boy, can I relate. One of the reasons my temper IS slow to boil over is that I've scared myself when it has.

Takes me a long time to calm down from the berserker, as well.
