Yes, I know, I haven't posted in awhile. I apologize.

SC: Who do you think you are?! You can't look at my account! That's invasion of privacy! You aren't my parents, you can't tell me where I can spend my money! I'm going to make you guys pay ME!

    Me: I'm sorry... What?

SC: You declined my card because you think you have a right to tell me where I can and can't spend my money!

Me: Ma'am... We declined your card because you're negative $1500.

SC: Fuck you! I hope you burn in hell! *Storms off*

    Me:

Wat will they do when they realize a computer most likely set their card to decline due to insufficient funds, not a human.

Fail to comprehend. Somebody has to be doing it 'to them' on purpose. Can't be their fault you see. Somebody else is always to blame.

If it had been back in the day of "take an imprint" machines, he'd be fuming because the numbers on his card hadn't been worn off yet.

This. This is my husband. He has 3 THREE bank accounts at one bank and uses them as if they were all full all of the time. Then when he gets overdrawn he calls the bank and comes up with a sob story about why it wasn't his fault. The funniest one was "the credit card processor we use got hacked and the hackers chose MY account to process 50,000 stolen credit cards ( edit - in 1 hour) which cost me X dollars in processing fees and THAT'S why I'm overdrawn". Never mind that probably the bank would notice that many transactions when he normally only has 10 - 20 credit card sales a week. And never mind that it wasn't true and the real reason was he had spent the money on clothing.

Sounds like my ex coworker. Even though he did write the bad checks and overdraw, it was in NO way his fault (*eyeroll*) because his "Stupid girlfriend" didn't do this or tell him that or because of this or that or this or that, or this "Stupid asshole" or this "Dumb bitch" or whomever.....yeah.

And when he closed one bank account so that these payday loan places couldn't take money out of it anymore, and got a new one, he didn't inform payroll at work of the change, so therefore, there was no account to put his paycheck in. THAT was payroll's fault anyway, in his opinion, and they were to blame because he didn't get the funds in time to pay this or that bill and he overdrafted on his new bank account.

Yeah, to put it nicely, he was a fucking moron with a hell of a victim complex.

Sounds a lot like my ex. Nothing was ever her fault either. When she bounced a bunch of checks, it was supposedly because she had gone in and had them transfer funds from her savings into her checking, and they messed it up. I suppose that's possible, but she never called them about it. Apparently she expected them to somehow know they made a mistake and fix it. Eventually they closed her account with a -$60-something balance.

Shortly after that, she thought she'd just go open an account at another bank. She wasn't too happy when she found out that banks share their information about deadbeats who run their accounts into the red and just leave.

On the other side of the coin, I've bounced a few checks on a few extremely rare occasions. Hey, it happens to the best of us, and I think I may have bounced three in my lifetime. And every time, I made sure the person I had written the check to got paid, and just ate the fee. It was my own fault, after all.

Once, when I got my bank statement, it showed a negative balance. Apparently I had miscalculated, and one of the checks I had written put me in the red. But the strange thing was that it looked like they had paid it out anyway, leaving me with a negative balance, and added a bounced check fee, bringing me even further into the red. I was confused, not to mention a little concerned, since the check that would have bounced was one I had written to my job (I was working at the supermarket at the time and was still fairly new.) So I called them to find out exactly what happened.

This nice lady who answered the phone told me that they put the check thru anyway, even though I was a little short. She said they usually did that as long as it wasn't someone who was constantly bouncing checks. I thanked her and let her know that I was coming to the bank with cash to bring my account positive again.

When I got there to deposit the money, she also removed the bounced check fee, even though I didn't and wouldn't have asked for that. Again, it was my mistake. But I wasn't going to complain either.

On the rare instances I've overdrawn my account (via check or debit), that's how it's gone for me too. The bank still covered the check, and just dinged me the overdraft fee. As soon as I found out each time, I paid up the account. Seems to be how it's done for people who aren't deadbeats.

I just wish that the bank in question (no longer my bank) didn't hit me three times with the overdraft fee before getting the overdraft notices to me. Since this was before online banking was commonplace, I wouldn't realize I was over until the next time I went to the ATM (rarely) or finally got the letter from them. ::sigh::

Nowadays, with the ability to check our balance online, it's not so frustrating because it's really all my fault at that point. Luckily, I also am better at keeping tabs on what I spend.

I've overdrafted also, and as lame as it sounds..the one time I did..it really wasn't something I did.

Noticed an odd charge on my account, went to investigate..never heard of the place, had never recieved or signed up for anything ... etc. Was not overdrawn yet..went to the bank and tried to sort things out. In less then 24 hours whatever it managed to charge me on 100 items..well technically 200..

It would be a 1 dollar charge..I guess to see if it would go through..then another charge immediately after for different amounts. 19, 29, 57..etc. Every time..1 $1 charge..immediately followed by another charge. Now for several of them I had enough to cover..but eventually it got into the negatives. All told, counting fees..I ended up being out over $1000. I got most of it back, though I had to fight to do so, but I never did get all of it back.

Similar to that, I get the people who are signed up for an auto-debit to pay their bills. They close their bank accounts, but don't let us know that they have closed it or what new account to deduct their money from.

So, on the 3rd of the month, we get all the notices from the bank and add all the NSF fees to their accounts. They ALWAYS call up after that indignant that we didn't know somehow without them telling us.
