Thank you! Ok, one more question, if anyone knows: How would the above translate to a grande size?
Well, at Starbucks, a grande is two shots. Translates to a quad-grande no foam latte if she wants to be wired.

But, if she wants a grande but doesn't want the extra shots, *I* would just tell her to order a no-foam latte, half-full. BUT... if she's going to do that, it would be just as easy to order a tall (why pay for a grande if you're only going to fill it halfway?). Or even a short. Order a double-short no-foam latte. Gets her the two shots and the small amount of milk.

It all depends on how wired she wants to be.

but it turned out that she was under the impression that the foam in cappuccinos was made from some substance other than milk and she didn't know or care what it was.
      ???
      Yeah, it's called AIR!

My standard Starbucks order is a Tall chai-tea latte non-fat. My mother in law once said, "Jeez, you may as well go for it, why cheat yourself with non-fat?". I explained that non-fat froths better. Now she orders everything "non-fat".
I actually don't like the taste of whole milk. I always get skim hot chocolate, sometimes with whipped cream if I feel like treating myself (well, more than I already am by spending $3 on hot chocolate ) Early in my BN career, I had a regular HC with whip while I was on register, and it was about 3/4 done and it was getting cold. I went to heat it up and took the lid off. Between the whole milk and whipped cream and the fact that it had cooled it looked so disgusting I didn't even want to finish it. Started getting skim after that. I can always tell when they make a mistake and use whole (but I'll drink it anyway since it doesn't happen too often.)

I think that I will stick with my normal 20 oz chocolate decaf breve. MMMMM.

food, if that's too much milk for her, she can also use the misto suggestion with an add shot and experiment with the coffee to milk ratio; what helps the most is when the customer is more specific, especiaaly in a case like this.

i'm pretty good with getting a drink together, but if the person is picky and vague...but that's nowhere near as bad as the idiot who wanted me to make 'that vanilla drink.' sheesh.

My friends and I refer to the "non fat, no whip" add-on as "no fun", i.e. "I'll have a tall no-fun vanilla latte"

I usually get non-fat, no whip beverages because I am lactose intolerant, so I find it easier to digest (even with Lactaid) than the full fat, whipped option. I have had the odd time where I have had a lactaid with a beverage with whipping cream and it doesn't quite do the trick, so I end up 'feeling unwell' for at least 24 hours.

What ever happened to getting a simple cup of coffee? It was so easy to say, "Large coffee with cream, 2 sugars, please."

Because coffee with milk and chocolate tastes soooo much better. It's about the dairy.

I never thought I'd say it, but after reading this thread, I'm glad I can't drink coffee! All the complications to it, sheesh! It's like breaking into Fort Knox. I got tired just reading it!

Apparently not at our local Burger King. They give you 2 creams and 2 sugars and charge 25 cents for each additional. My friend and I ordered 2 coffees and they were gonna charge us a dollar for extra cream and sugar. We were like, "We shoulda gone to Starbucks."

i understand what you mean food lady, i have heard some of my coworkers be snippy with people who weren't sure about what they wanted. and i've been made to feel a little dumb before i started working there, back before they had the vanilla bean, and still had the vanilla syrup creme frap.

anyway, she can just ask for a triple espresso with a bit of milk, and they will only charge her for the 3 shots. the misto i was talking about is 1/2 brewed coffee and half steamed milk. but she can choose a red eye misto, which is what chained barista said. thats 2/3 brewed coffee, a shot of espresso, and the rest of the cup filled with milk.

Wow....this is why I don't go to Starbucks.

This is also why I could never work AT Starbucks, I'd pull someone over the counter and stab them in the face with a stirstick by my 3rd day there. ;p

I'm not a coffee drinker though. I avoid the dark road that is caffiene, mainly because with the hours I work I know if I start down that road I'll become dependent on it just to function at work. Just like most of the zombies that stumble in here in the morning with a litre of Star Bucks clutched in one quivering fist. -.-

I don't like the taste of milk anyhow. Plus I'm lactose intolerent and vegetarian ( I'm a total pussy, yes. I even drink diet pepsi <sob> ). I demand my soy. ^^

On a side note, coffee tastes like goat arse to me. Wet, sweaty goat arse. So whats the point of decaf? Were people drinking it for the flavour? o.O

                          Alternative

I suppose changing the way a drink is made makes it a whole new drink and can be confusing.
What if you ask the server to give you give you half a cup(grande?) of frothy milk then add a shot of expresso.

Or you could save yourself a ton of money , a ton of hassle and and make it at home.

Ok, I worked there for quite a while and I can definitely see what she is asking for. However, the proportion of espresso/milk/foam in a cappuccino is supposed to be about 1/3 each...... if you got rid of the foam and just did espresso and milk, that is a ton of espresso. I would say that she should ask for a grande 6 shot no foam latte. I think she would probably be better off getting a tall 4 shot latte. Or, because that is ridiculously expensive, getting a stove top espresso maker and doing it herself.

Here in Canada the standard coffee order is usually "double double"

(that'd be two sugars, two milks)
