  • Why do I even bother?

I've been a long time lurker but here are some of my tales. At the store I used to work at, we had the take a number system. People were supposed to pull a ticket wait for their number to be called then come for service. In theory it worked in reality, not so. Anyway, I was working we were up to number 36 and I called it not once but three times. No no. 36, I moved on to 37,low and behold here comes 36 charging up yelling my number wasn't called. Um yes it was, three times, you didn't hear it because you were so busy running your mouth to the lady nest to you. And yeah she HAD to complain to a manager that it wasn't called.

Man, those take a number lines are cutthroat...if you shop at a place that has one you should know you have to stick close to the counter and listen REALLY hard for your number to be called!!

It happens nearly every time. We go to a place with a number system and the people ahead of us never ever show up for their number. As the comedian once said, I worry if they are okay.

I don't. I just feel glad that their idiocy means I have a shorter wait time

A lot of the larger fabric stores around here have those take-a-numbers at the cutting tables. The problem is, they don't always use them consistently. So one day you get the woman all mad because I waltzed up after she'd been waiting for 10 minutes without a number and I got to go ahead of her. The next time I come up and take a number like a good customer and realize that they're not calling them, and there was in fact a line today.

I like the theory of the take a number system, but it's been my experience that most places don't use them consistently. Sometimes the number roll paper thingy is empty, or when I get there I see that they aren't calling the numbers, so I don't take one, only to have a ton of people show up behind me, who are now all confused, 'do I take a number? Not take a number?'

But when they are using it, I keep my ears open and my eyes on the monitor waiting for my turn, however there are plenty of people who don't.. Hell I've seen them walk away, miss their number then come schreeching back all ranty, "I was number blah blah, you missed my number blah blah! It's my turn!!!!!!!"
