I want to preface this post by saying I cannot possibly express how aggravating I find Walmart's "match it!" commercial to be. If anyone's heard it (the one where the lady wants a price match of 20 cents and everyone starts yelling "Match it!") imagine hearing it about every 10 minutes.
Anyway, two pricematching customers to talk about today.
Price match #1
Customer comes up with a blu-ray back to the future 25th anniversary trilogy dvd set. and an add.
SC: Okay, I was in here earlier and asked if they would price match to this ad, and they said they couldn't because it wasn't the same thing. But I looked online and in the store and it is the same item.
Me: (looks at the ad. Shows a back to the future trilogy, minus the "25th Anniversary" part. Also says reg. 19.99 - 29.99. Sale price was 14.99. at our store it sells for 49.99.) Only thing you could do is talk to customer service, I'm not able to match that price for you.
SC: but do you think they'll look at this? (he has the website on his phone)
Me: We can't match online prices, You're certain this was the item on sale in the store, too?
SC: Yes, this exact thing.
Me: and was it $30 in that store?
SC: No, it was like, $70. They were all sold out.
Me: It's regularly $70 and they reduced it to $15?
SC: Yea, obviously it went quick.
Me: (I kinda just blink for a little bit) Well, like I said you can try talking to customer service, but they're not going to give you a price match of that much unless they can prove that was the sale price in store.
He left at that point. I'm not certain how I feel about this...I mean, I suppose it's possible they had it on sale that much, but it just doesn't seem realistic to me. Not to mention he had already been told no... Not as bad as the next one, though.
Price match #2
Came out of the back and this couple is waiting at the counter already looking irritated. It doesn't really make much of a difference who talked when, so I'll consider them one person for the dialogue.
SC: You price match, right?
Me: We'll price match with other store's if you've got an ad, but not online prices.
SC: We don't have an ad, but you've got a Toshiba laptop over there for $399 and Best Buy has it for $349.
Me: Well, we-
SC: And we could drive all the way over there, but we're here now.
Me: Without an ad all I could do is take it up to the service desk and see if they can verify that price
SC: Ugh! we don't have time for all that trouble! (they storm off)
And for the online problem.
Electronics associate C was talking on the phone with a customer earlier this afternoon about ordering a movie from the website and shipped site to store. He was having trouble so she said if he came in we could help him. When he came in, I didn't realize it was the same person, but I do agree to help him.
Me: First off, do you have a walmart.com account?
sc: no.
Me: okay. (gets the kiosk to the right page) You'll need to fill out this page first to create an account.
I leave briefly to help other customers. When I come back, he's being helped by a lady, I'm unsure of the relation, possibly mother or aunt. Together we finish filling out the page and click continue, but...
The computer says the email is already linked to a walmart.com account. I tell them this.
L(for lady): probably from when he applied for a job. He's applied for so many jobs.
Me: (later, after talking to C, I realized it was probably from when he was trying to do this at home just a half hour earlier) Do you have any guesses as to your password?
sc: no
Me: do you have any other emails?
sc: no
Me: Well, There's a password recover feature, but it will email it to you, and this kiosk can't access anything other than our website.
SC: So I came all the way here for nothing?!
Me: I'm sorry, but there is nothing I can do for you at this point.
They leave with him grumbling while the lady tries to explain to him what I had said.
Little bonus: I was covering photo for their break. Woman needed to pay for her pictures.
W: She was just here, I don't know where she could've gone.
Me: She went on her break.
W: What?! She saw me get my pictures, why would she do that?!
yea...she went on break about five minutes ago...You can't have been in that big of hurry to pay for them. If she was even here when you got them.
