There's like ten or more people in your line as a Cashier. You're almost ready to close down for the day but then you're not going to expect 10 transactions. People just like to shop for other lazy people and they hold up the lines to make like 5 or 6 transactions I mean that's pathetic.

Yes! I get people at lunch who've taken orders & cash from half a dozen co-workers (or similar) and need a separate transaction for each order, plus all the receipts (they don't automatically print). And then everything has to be in separate bags, but they want one big bag for all the smaller ones. I've spent ten minutes doing this for some people. OMG the rage of the people behind them! I try to put all the orders through very quickly, print all the receipts, and then give them to a manager and have them get everything while I keep serving. But I guess at department stores, etc, it doesn't quite work that way. If only we could make them line up again for each transaction! I'd like to see their faces.Michael: Maybe you'll be inspired by the boat party tonight and start a career as a pirate.

The answer is no, because Bob has 11 items. And Bob has 9 items. Therefore Bob has 11 and 9 items. 11 + 9 = 20, therefore Bob has a total of... less than 12

I do 2 transactions regularly because people who have flex-spending accounts can't purchase their other tchotchkies on that card. I don't mind usually, unless they're buying a huge cartload of crap and it's painfully obvious that I'm insanely busy. Like today. Eesh.
Good thing I put on my running shoes, because I did quite a bit of flying around.

Using separate transactions to use the express line doesn't make sense to me anyway, even if it weren't sucky. I'm willing to bet that by the time these people finish running all those transactions it took longer than if they had just stood in a regular line.
Its not really about the time or money saved for SCs. Its about "beating the system". So many stories I read here seem to boil down to the SC's belief that the store is out to cheat them in some way. Personally, I have never gotten out of bed in the morning thinking "Mwahahaha! How many customers can I screw over today?!"

Separate transactions used to drive me nuts when I worked at maccas and at coles... They are always time consuming - no matter where they are!
At maccas this one time, this group of 4 came in, and they ordered 4 Quarter Pounders and paid for them all together, and 3 of them gave the cash to the guy who paid - all while in front of my register so I could not serve anyone else. Then, they all proceeded to order fries & drinks, and chicken nuggets separately!!
The only other guy on the regsisters that was, had a mental disorder (very sweet and one of the nicest people I have ever met)... But he was very slow at serving, because of this disability. Because of the 4 clowns I was dealing with, 10 minutes later, the other guy had only served 2 people and I called for the manager a few times and kept getting ignored.
15 minutes I spent dealing with the 4 clowns trying to sort out what they want and paying (one of them even paid half on card, half in cash), they had literally just left the counter and I was taking the next persons order when the manager came out of the office (I guess he had finally decided to look at the security camera screen over the registers), and screamed at me for not calling out to him for help!
The guys in the back (I usually worked in the back area, I only worked out in the front area to help out when need be) backed me up, and said I had been calling for help, and one of them had even knocked on the door to the managers office only for him to yell out to "wait a minute". And the manager literally said to them to stop lying to cover for me!
Totally wrong move by the manager, because I was close to the edge at this point (and on anti - depressants because of maccas - these stories will be posted on the boards eventually, so I had already given my notice, and I only had 3 shifts left), I literally went to the change room, grabbed my stuff, and walked out, leaving him with a long line of angry customers, some of which had been waiting more than 15 mins!

I'd get those kinds of people all the time when I worked at McD's... four teens (no offense, it was just usually teens who were on their lunch break from school) would come up, and each would order a few things... and then the next would, but they'd never stop rotating through the group... every fifth transaction was the same person over again, as they tried to puzzle out what all their friends wanted, and they forgot to write down.
They'd think they were finished, I'd take their money, print the receipt, and they'd suddenly have other stuff to order, meanwhile, I have a line forty people deep (Lunch rush'll do that to you)"I call murder on that!"

Sometimes, I will do 2 transactions, just because I am going shopping, and someone will need something also. To me it is better like that. But I do aggree with you all, if they put it as more then 3 transactions, then yeah, they are being royal asshats

The whole separate transaction thing is annoying, I admit...but there are certain people who do that because its part of their job...I run into it every day that I work. I know who they are, and they always have separate bags for their clients (they work for mentally disabled people...people that can't go out themselves and shop) so I make it a point to not get annoyed with that. Plenty of other customers get mad, but I don't. It used to bother me when I first started and didn't know, however."I'm not even supposed to BE here today!"

I sometimes do two transactions if I am buying something for work (and therefore will be reimbursed). It makes it easier if I have the separate receipt (instead of figuring out how much is owed from my uber-long personal receipt). Besides, no one at my office needs to know what I buy.
I always tell the cashier that I am doing two separate transactions and I make it as fast as possible (method of payment/store cards/airmiles etc etc out and ready to go).

Well in defense of some people out there who make separate transactions, we sometimes have no choice.
In the SCA they are telling us that this is a request for right now but will become mandatory. We must use separate transactions when we purchase stuff.
It used to be that we could just do our normal shopping for ourselves and then add the one or two things to the order and get paid back from the group's funds. But since the IRS is bitching that they don't want to have to deal with underlined bits and scribbles on the recipts, we now have to make our personal purchases separate from the SCA ones. And they want it to be made separate from one department to the other.
Meaning that one night I had to go to the cashier (apologizing profusely and explaining why I'm doing this to the poor woman) with 6 items for me and my wife, 4 items for my wife's office and 3 items for my office in three transactions.
So in our defense, we may not have a choice if our organizations are getting heavy flak from the Infernal Revinue Service.
That being said however there is no reason that you can't run three people's transactions on a single receipt. That's just plain rude and there are ways to keep it separate and easy to deal with. Just put everyone's stuff on the belt in different piles so say the first third of the receipt is person "A", the second third is "B"'s stuff and so forth.
Wish we could do that in the SCA.
