  • I was supposed to honor this reservation for some reason.

A guest comes in with a reservation for the 28th. It's half hour past midnight on the 28th, so at least they arrived on the correct date. There's only one problem. I'm sold out today because of everyone who checked in on the 27th. But now that it's the 28th I should suddenly have rooms available.

Sorry, everyone, it's midnight now so I gotta kick everyone out.

Your guest ought to know it doesn't work like the way they think it does.

That's why hotels have a 3pm check-in time. Guess who has to wait?

Oh, those are just my favorites! </sarcasm>

We don't have a set check-in time at my motel. For people who ask, I usually try and find out when they plan on arriving so I can have a room ready by then. Of course, some people just see no time posted, and assume they can come in any time, and no matter how many ways you explain it to them, they just. Don't. Get. It.

Also, half past midnight on the 28th is a reservation for the 27th. Don't know how other places work, but here, we roll over at 5am, so anyone checking in between midnight and 5am would still be part of the 27th's businesss day, and they'd have to check out at noon on the same day.

Here at my hotel the cutoff is at the changing of the guards at 6am. But we don't advertise this fact.

Most of the places I've stayed have such a policy. Come in earlier and you roll the dice. Sometimes you get a 7 sometimes snake-eyes. Was this SC permitted to leave bags and/or hang out in the lobby 'til a room was available?

So, tell us, what happened? did they doze in the lobby until the proper check in time, harass you, demand a walk, or call the police? Details!

I think they went to stay with a friend. Since I traded shifts with the afternoon today, I will probably check her in at the proper time.

When my boyfriend and went to the hotel at 3 am to get a room (cause that's when I got to town) we could check in but it was a bit more then expected. We debated waiting until 8 but I was dead tired after being up for 22 hours we went ahead and paid the extra. And it was worth it to get the zzz's.

Checked in before my shift, so no update here.

I'm sure she [conveniently] missed the time, but certainly not the date.

My parents are kinda sc about check in time. They will leave the house early morning and act surprised/irritated/ and just generally act put out if the hotel room isn't ready when they arrive. It doesn't matter if it's only 11am. This drives me nuts and I am glad I don't get to see this. I have tried to educate them about check in time but goes in one ear and out the other
