I remember from my days on the checkout people doing this thing where they drive their trolley up to the checkout, then bugger off. I would never wait for them to return; if another customer turned up, I would serve them cuz I am not sitting there, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for the SC to return. Leaving a full trolley next to an empty checkout is incredibly rude, in my opinion; it's kinda along the same lines as a small child putting their bag on a seat to stop anyone sitting there. I can't scan the shopping when it's still in the trolley, and I'm damned if I'm going to make everyone else wait for your entitled arse to get back.
