  • And people ask why we don't trust them...

As anyone who watches T.V. knows, Sams Mart matches prices, no ad needed. Well, we started doing that with our photos as well and we were even given a price sheet to match the prices easier.
This is what happened the other day.

SC: Hey. Do you guys price match back at these registers without an ad right?
Me: Yeah we do. Who are you looking to price match?
SC: Rite Aid right now, but I am still looking.
    Me: Ok.

She walks off does her order for our one hour service and come back in 10-15 minutes. I get a bit irritated when people come by extremely early and get impatient when their order is not done and of course her 150 print order isn't done yet. Of course that isn't the point here. She stands around until her order is done.

SC: Ok, so I can still do the price match right?
Me: Of course, how much are we looking at?
SC: Office Depot is doing theirs for 8¢ a print.
Me: *A bit stunned at the price difference because we go as low as 13¢* O..ok

I walk over to the predetermined price sheet and it only goes as low as 9¢. Well damn it all... I now have to manually price override photos which is a hassle because the register doesn't take that well. After all is said and done me and my co-worker talk and we decide to call Office Depot. Truthfully I didn't think they had a photo lab.

    OD: Photo Center
Me: Uh... yeah, how much is it to do a 4x6?
    OD: 59¢ for a sheet of 2.
Me: FFFF..... ahem, ok thank you.

Moral of the story, all customers are liars.

I suspect the OD price the SC was quoting was for b/w copies (maybe even color ones), not photo prints.

Why didn't you call them to check the price BEFORE ringing her out?

Exactly. I trust people about 1/2 as far as they can throw ME [and Kaibutsu is a big monster]. Make them say which store and call to confirm in front of them.

Nothing is as sweet as owning a SC to their face.

...Or are you even *allowed* to do so?

It boggle my mind that they let you price match without an ad, and the OP shows exactly why...

Probably because of the most recent commercials. The 'match it' commercials. You know where everybody says 'match it'? Even though it mentions needing an ad, it is not very prominent, and sc's will do that 'false advertising! Arggglebargle, whine, moan, bitch' thing. So it is probably corporate policy.

Great...add that to another places 'returns without questions' policy, and corporate america just keeps getting smarter and smarter.

Those in the ivory tower don't have to deal with the heartburn they create. If they did, guaranteed there would be more careful consideration about the policies they sign off on.

Yeah, we really aren't allowed to call other companies, but the problem is, when we lose money, I lose hours. Also if I fight the customer I lose my job. The lowly employees lose at every turn. I am hoping to talk to somebody to let us at least call. The stores work much like federal and state government, if the company doesn't cover it in detail or tends to poorly enforce it the store manager can make the call to make a new rule.

Then return all of it to the other place, for full price ... right? (since you don't need a receipt and returns are no questions asked)

So....they open you up to massive financial losses by forcing you to price match on stuff that other stores might not even carry....and then they penalize you for the losses the store takes as a result. Wonderful.

I just can't get over this kind of corporate behaviour, I really can't. Why on earth would anyone want to pursue a policy that will keep losing them money?

Yesterday at work, a CW called for a supervisor because she had a customer who was complaining that some item was 10p less at *competitor*. The only reply he got from the supervisor was 'And our price is *xx*.'

If something's damaged or incomplete, we'll adjust the price, but then the receipt is marked and it can't be returned.

Seriously? Some one in marketing/management/whatever thought this was a GOOD idea?

Some one needs to be fired over this. There has to be SOME ONE with enough clout to do an audit of this new process, figure out how much money they are losing (and thus how much of their bonuses are being flushed down the tubes) and then FIRE the idiots who came up with this and approved it!
