  • My DM actually told off a customer..

We get these same customers every day and 3-4 times a week they complain about something resulting in free food, refunds, or both. It got to a point where the DM gave them her personal cell phone to call her if something was wrong, because she just didn't believe we were messing up that much.

Today I walked in the door around 8 am and my DM walked in maybe 5 minutes later. When we walked in it was just a mess. There was a line in drive thru, a line on counter, no food was coming out, the employees weren't really doing anything, nothing was stocked, it was terrible. The aforementioned customers were already there and complaining about something when we walked in. In this case the DM saw that we had messed up so she believed them when they called her.

    So she offered them:
*A replaced breakfast sandwich (despite the fact that by the time they called it was lunch time)
*TWO extra value meals, large size
*And someone would deliver it to their work

Yeah.. I know what you're thinking. And no, she didn't offer to do the delivering.

So anyway she calls me to let me know what was happening and gave me the phone number to see what meals they wanted. So I call them and this is the conversation:

Me *spiel about who I am and why I'm calling*
SC "Oh ok yes, we'd like the breakfast sandwich, 2 big mac meals, a 10 pc nugget meal, and a quarter pounder meal. Do we need to come pick it up?"
Me "Well no, I can deliver all of that, but as it is more than what was promised to you I will need you to pay for the additional two meals."
SC" What?! DM told us you would give us whatever we wanted."
Me "I just got off the phone with her, that's how I got your phone number, and she was very specific about what we were replacing."
SC" Well she told me that you would feed all of us because we are poor."
Me "I'm sorry, I can only give you what she told me. Would you like me to call and verify it with her?"
SC "No, I'll call her back and let her know how horrible you are."
    *hangs up*

Ten minutes later, DM calls me and says "We aren't replacing anything now, don't worry about it."
I ask her what happened and she says that the girl called her up and said I wouldn't give her all the food she wanted and DM agreed with me saying that we weren't going to give them $20 in free food over one messed up sandwich. The girl then cussed her out and DM told her that now we weren't giving her anything.

Three hours later I guess the SC called DM and apologized so we were to give them 2 free meals, but no breakfast sandwich and no delivery. The customers came in and tried to confuse me into giving them 4 meals, but wound up paying for the 2 additional meals.

I honestly expected DM to cave into the demands of 4 free meals.

I remember working at McSh*ters. I remember catching this teen off guard in the drive thrue because he attempted to hide his mcdouble between his pants and and claim that he didn't get it. I told him "Nice try" and that he hid it between his pants. He got p*ssed and drove off.

I'm so happy that I quit that McCheap place.

    NO seriously, mcdouble between pants.

Yeah, but then she gave in again, promising 2 meals.

Yeah. Their apology wasn't worth the breath they used to give it and she should've stood her ground about giving them nothing.

I really really REALLY hope the DM was NOT expecting a regular employee to "deliver" the free meals. I would hate to be the DM (and that matter the company) if said employee while delivering these free meals either got into an accident (not their fault) or CAUSED an accident. becuase in either case the employee would get into trouble AND the DM could get personally sued and hte company would get its collective ass sued off by the employee AND the others involved in the accident.

unless your store regularly does delivery then I seriously doubt they carry Non-Owned Vehicle Insurance which protects the store/company/owner from LOTS of liablility and lawsuits involving delivery personal since the employee is employed by said company.

VERY large can of worms might have been openned and a real boneheaded move on the DMs part.
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

It has invariably been my experience that, when you have a case of "serial returners/complainers" like this, they keep doing it because it WORKS. There doesn't have to have been anything wrong with the food or service, they just know that they can easily get free food while being sucked up to on a regular basis. If and when the free food dries up, they'll soon disappear. Sadly, it will most likely be to prey on other establishments. After all, it worked on your managers >_<

OMG, who would continue to do that?? The only special treatment we give people, is this daycare that orders for all the kids every Wednesday. And that's the only time we deliver, and that's ONLY if we forget something.

IF everytime someone claimed to be poor & got FREE food because of it then every eating place would go broke in a week. & then the SC's would complain about those places being shut down!

yes, in addition to sellling cheap, crappy food, we now have a soup kitchen section. enjoy!

is that a new sc reasoning, or has that one been pulled before? so many 'reasonings,' so little brain coming up with them.

Yeah, I have no idea what being poor had to do with it. What's especially funny is these customers all work together at a pawn shop. I wonder if I could go there and request free stuff because I am poor.
