  • Nice try.

At the call center for the Borg Sphere cell company (they do a lot of assimilating)

A guy calls in, says there should be a note on his account to give him a 200 dollars credit. Cant remember why it was there, but I did confirm it. Why who ever put the note there and didnt just give him the credit is beyond my understanding.

The thing is, this should have been a quick call. Five minutes tops. Note was on the account, I confirmed it, and was going to give it to him. But he kept putting me on hold. So not being a total idiot, I got suspiscious. I gave him his credit and then told him his new balance and the general thankyou anything else I could help him with speil and ended the call in accordance with policy.

However, I did one thing differently. I didnt just close the account. I refreshed it. And saw that while he was on the phone with me he was also on the phone with another agent and got the same credit twice. So.. I reversed the credit I have gave him and immediatley called him back. He didnt answer the phone (not surprising) so I left a voicemail saying that you can only get the credit once and provided the current account balance after I reversed the credit. I did review the notes and saw that both credits were for the same note. Before I did the reversal, just in case. Then informed my sup. Never heard anything else about it. But felt smug that I caught him.

Way to catch a scammer! You should get a bonus for being diligent, you saved the company a lot of hassle, if not $200. I love stories like this, where the good for nothing gets nothing!

Wow, awesome catch; I never considered people doing that before. You going to watch out for more of those now?

Agreed! I hope you put a new note on his account that he tried this nonsense and to keep an eye out for future shenanigans.

Always makes me wonder how the scammers are so familiar with a system that they know what they can get away with. Scammer school I guess...

Thankfully. I dont work at that place anymore. So I dont have to look for scams like that. But there was always someone trying to scam/lie about getting more and more credits. There were some accounts that were flagged as not being able to be credited by a special corporate watch group.

For some reason they were all Indian sounding names(as in India and not native americans) at least most of them anyway. You didnt see it to often. But I went over a couple of there accounts, and it basically added up that the provider was paying them to have service.

I am beginning to wonder what is in the water. Maybe somebody is putting something in there to lower people's IQ, so they come up with such brilliant scams? Though I got to admit, this was a bit more creative then some of the recent ones

You mean a security protocol that actually makes sense?
No no no. They spent several million on a new program that was supposed to combine all others. Then forced it into service with a requirment to use it MONTHS before it should have been released. Made a lot of fun billing issues to fix when people got put onto the wrong plans, phones not being ordered correctly as well.

Took almost two years to work out the major bugs and it was still glitchy at best. Personally I think they could have found some kid in a garage to do a better job than whoever they had on it. Could have paid him in Mountain Dew Code Red and hotpockets too.

Hey, the program we use was in use for several years in the industry before we switched to it. We've had it for 5 years, now, and there are still "programming 101" issues with the thing. >_<

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of choice in the sphere we're in, and the alternatives are all universally worse.
