I think medicare will sometimes pay for taxis for healthcare services, but she's probably too good for medicare.
Doesn't matter if she is too good for it - it is manditory after a certain age. You can get supplimentary ins. or replacement type - but regardless, after a certain age if medicare doesn't cover it neither will your insurance.

But tilly doesn't work in the US so doesn't have to deal with medicare rules - at least you can be glad for that.

Not quite true. Mrs. IA is on Medicare (US health insurance program for those 65+). Medicare establishes a certain rate for health services and pays a certain percentage of it. Our supplemental health insurance* (BC/BS) pays the balance. And the person pays nothing.

However, if the Doctor does not participate in Medicare, or if you are eligible for but have not enrolled in Medicare, BC/BS pays their share of the Medicare established fee for the service as though the person was enrolled in Medicare. All else is paid by the person.

        * I assume other supplemental health insurances are similar.

Consider yourself lucky that you had just a phone call with her. Imagine how she was with the nurses, orderlies and doctors for five days.

SC: Heeeellloooo, you over there, come here. I am an Upper Class Lady and my favorite show isn't on TV. Fix it.

Nurse: I'm a nurse I have no control what is on TV.

SC: I don't care. I want to watch Oprah, because I'm so important. Put Oprah On....

SC - *SIGH * Do you know how long I've been a member? Do you have a computer? Can you read? Look at your computer screen and read it - tell me - how long have I been a member for?
It sounds like the confused dear (bless her heart) thought insurance companies have customer loyalty perks. Kind of like being bumped to first class on airlines after so many miles. Or getting a free upgrade in a hotel after so many stays.

"I've been a customer for 13 years, where's my Diamond Member Lapel Pin?"

Even funnier when you realize that with insurance the most "loyal" customers are the ones who cost the company the most money.

Good point...but at least they can drug her. Or take the blood sample or inject the drug in the most painful spots.

I'm surprised she didn't demand tilly's supervisor in that convo.

You are right. What I was trying to explain though is that Medicare doesn't cover certain procedures or covers them, but only for certain reasons. For example, an eye lift would be covered for medical neccesity (the person can't see without it) but not for cosmetic reasons. This is particularly sucktacular if you manage to get a disease that isn't on their "list".

Odd you should mention that. Mrs. IA just had that procedure done. Medicare covered part of the cost for the upper eyelids, but not the lower eyelids.

It is a pretty common procedure and the one that makes the least sense to me that they don't cover the lower lids at the same time. IMO it is better to do them both for medical reasons, but in Medicare's view the upper lids are medical and the lower are cosmetic and there doesn't seem to be a way to change their opinion.
How did Mrs. IA do - does she feel a lot more comfortable now?

Ahhh, someone else that watches that show! I have made references to the show to friends and they look at me like I am from another planet

Once a friend of mine was looking for some kind of bucket to use for a project. She was looking through different ones and said , "ugh all I want is a bucket that is big and sturdy but not too big. Oh bucket, Mr. Bucket, where are you?" And I could not help it, I was like, "it is not Bucket, it's Bouquet" then cracked up laughing. She looked at me like I was nuts and I was like "what, you are the one talking to the buckets not me"
I love British sitcoms! Although I am WAY behind ATM about what's available right now (no TV) ... so my favourite to date is Are You Being Served? I think more than one actress played Mrs. "Bouqet's" free-with-her-favours sister over the years; I really like the airheaded blond. The actress did an excellent job with the part!

What a bitch, makes you wonder why she couldn't call a family member to pick her up, either they all died off or they are in hiding from her, lol.
I'm guessing the latter. They are probably relieved that she's in the hospital and thus somebody else gets to deal with her grande dame airs and orders, at least for a while.

When they truck out the, "You must be new" card, it bugs the hell out of me.

Either they're trying to get away with something that they would never be able to do otherwise, or they're just being generally bitchy. Either way it kills any urge I have to help them, especially when I've been at the job for a while.
