  • Let Me Illustrate Why This Customer Sucks...

Simply put. Return bad client, who I've pwned in the past, is back again. Why now? Because he made a competing website for one of the side businesses I run, and...

..prepare yourself....put down your drinks....you ready now?....ok you there, you put it down. I mean it. Seriously. Ok fine, I claim no responsibility for your monitor and keyboard.

He's angry that my website looks better than his.

    Yes.

So this, this is what I'm now dealing with. And have been, all week. This is a screenshot from my website stats dashboard.

Red line means a "potential threat" visited my website. Normally, you shouldn't even SEE that. So yes, my website's under attack. Constantly. Again. The attacks get squashed constantly, but he's apparently paying several sets of people off a botnet forum to hit my website. How do I know this? They've come up to me, asking why he's offering them so much to hit my website. :P "You must've really ****ed him over bad, huh?"

I'm going to destroy something at this point.

Umm, at this point, if you have verification that this guy has in fact been paying people to maliciously attack your site, shouldn't you have grounds enough to press charges or sue? I know attention to cyber crimes has risen in recent years... I wish there WAS something that you could do to make him STOP IT AND GO AWAY. (Don't we all.)

I've submitted a ridiculous amount of information to the local FBI office, its a waiting game at the moment. But I'm going to be impatient tomorrow morning and see whats up.

How about a good old conventional charge of harassment or stalking?

I would, but he's in the UK. I, however, am in America. So I have to put this in my government's hands and hope...they do what they're supposed to....

...ok even I couldn't keep a straight face for that. <facedesk>

Hmm. I wonder if there is a way to file a complaint with his local government.

I can't remember where I read it, I think it may have been an article on the BBC website a while ago, that if there is someone committing a cyber-crime they can be prosecuted not only under the law of the country of the victim, but the country they live in and any country involved in the "transaction" of the crime they are committing (I think it was more targeted at fraud etc but you get my gist) I'll see if I can find where I read it.

You could also ask the British Government for their advice. Surely they can stop him.

That is a ddos or denial of service attack. Which I believe might be considered hacking. Nail him

That sucks, Seraph. Since this sort of thing is low on the FBI's priority list, I doubt a lot will be done. On the up side, it sounds like your site is managing to survive the DDoS attacks, so he's spending a ton of money on illegal service that will bite him in the ass eventually for... nothing. Sounds like a win-win overall.

Hm, I have a friend who is a manager for a viking company, he is in their IT division. Would be interesting if this guy was a subscriber to their internet service. I could probably arrange all sorts of arcane issues to develop with his service ... I know they have server farms just outside London and have a bunch of british subscribers.

I've joined from UK, specially to provide some helpful info.
                        (1) If you look up the IP address and contact details of this guy's website, you can find out who his ISP is, and who his domain provider is (often the same, but not necessarily). You complain to them.
                        (2) Using the IP address or the contact details, you can find out where he is located in the UK (which police jurisdiction)
                        (3) Google "report crime online site:uk" - this will give you the Government (national) online crime reporting system, and the pages for most (all?) the local police forces, so you can report him to the coppers. Be assured, what he is doing IS a crime in the UK.

Over here in AngloSaxonViking country, we bury people like this in mud up to their ankles (head downwards, of course).

                        Good hunting!

Apparently in medieval times a punishment was to put people in the stocks, paint their feet in salt water and let goats lick it off. It made me laugh when I first heard it, but apparently it's ridiculously painful after five minutes because goats have very rough tongues!

Of course, we don't do that sort of thing any more.

I second complain to his ISP and whichever UK law enforcement branch you can contact (or as many as you can). Good luck!
