  • I'm Just Glad There's An Ocean Between Me and This Much Stupid

Just the other day I had a customer who couldn't figure out how to attach a text file with product removal information to email to one of our dealers in the UK.

So she opened the file, printed it, scanned it, saved it as a .jpg and somehow managed to attach the .jpg to an email and send that to the dealer.

    And There's a Bonus!

It was information that they'd already sent us five months ago and was no longer valid because we'd already recorded the removal.

Not surprisingly they didn't understand why I couldn't record one removal two times.

The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

The stupid is strong with this one.

I think some people shouldn't be allowed to own a computer.

She did it wrong. She's supposed to scan in a photograph of the printout on a wooden table. People these days. *shakes head sadly*

Heh, earlier this week one of our techs emailed us an excel file. With a screen shot pasted in - of the command prompt screenshot he'd pasted into Word.

Yes, that's right - he took screenshot of the command prompt (why won't they learn to copy & paste out?!) - then pasted that into Word. Then took a screenshot of THAT and pasted that into Excel. Then saved the file & emailed it to us.

AND we've had worse, but it's even more headache-inducing :/

This is Tech Support, not Customer Service.
          What's the difference?
We're allowed to tell you "no".

Oh, yeah. I've had a few things like that. Like this one from a few months ago:

Customer types out a death notice in Word, then scans it and attaches that to their email….instead of just attaching the typed document to an email, or even just typing the notice into the body of the email. Plus, the image was sideways, and they also scanned a printed form with their letterhead on it….after filling in the form in what looks like pencil…and attached that, too.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

              Oh wow.

Once I had to get a list of book titles with ISBNs from a publisher. My contact there sent me a fax of a piece of paper where she'd written the titles and ISBNs by hand. She wrote like a six-year-old too, with random sized letters and lines that sloped downwards towards the right hand side of the page.

This wasn't just any random schmoe at the publisher, this was a receptionist/secretary type. I have no idea how she got that job. I mean, I have ideas, but it would be rude to say them out loud.

I recall a story, on this forum I think, about a manager that would write down the numbers from his spreadsheet, add them up with a calculator, then enter the sum into the spreadsheet.

Taking a text file and making it into a jpg file format and to top it not knowing how to attach the text file but able to attach the jpg file no problem?!! My brain hurts.....

I apologise on behalf of the neanderthals of the UK.
I realise they could do it themselves, but why should they? They've FAR more important things to do, such as go to yet another pointless "all-day meeting", to talk about, well, nothing in particular - not that they could talk about anything else, of course.
