  • Back in 2002?

Any way it was a long ass time ago.

I was working on the front registers and some cheap plastic cups wouldnt scan. I took a closer look at the UPC and notcied they were covering up another UPC.

The overlaying ones were not UPCs, bar codes yes, but it wasnt like anything we had in the store at the time. Not enough digits and to few.

I peeled the fake stickers off and scanned them, didnt even try to hide what I was doing. Customer didnt say a damn thing, just paid and left.

They were only like a quarter a piece anyway.

I wonder how many times that has worked before. SC knew he was beat and calling it out would be putting himself up for fraud charges. Unfortunately, his stone face makes him a really good SC/scammer. We have to stop that sort from multiplying.

We had that at the bookstore once (it doesn't happen often there, but when I worked at TJ Maxx tag-switching happened near every day).

This lady brought up a heavy, expensive medical book with a tag that read $12.99. I saw the name of the book on the tag was not the title of the book in my hand. I peeled off the sticker, which was covering the real sticker. It was a $60 book. I told the lady SOMEONE (and by 'someone' I mean 'you', scammer) switched the tags. She had the gall to ask if she could have it for the lower price, since that was the sticker she 'found' on it. I took great pleasure in telling her no. She didn't buy the book, surprise!

        Oh yeah.

Since my tags are safety-pinned onto the quilts they belong to, I often get people trying to play switcharoo. They always acts surprised when not only do I recognize all of the quilts in my booth (I made them myself after all) and that I know what the correct price is.
