Hi, this is my first post aside from the introduce yourself thread. I work in a high end retirement community. This community has independent living, partial assistance living, a dementia/Alzheimer's unit, and full nursing care facility. I now work in the dining area for the Independent living residents after being promoted from the partial assisted living dining room.
At work, we have glass panels separating the food from the residents, sort of like a buffet line. As the residents move through the line, most will just ask politely for what they would like on their plate. If they are unable to speak well, they will point nicely and use the space between the fingers move to indicate what and how much they would like. What really annoys me are the ones that can hear find, but practically holler at us and stab at the glass like they expect us to do a trick. The glass then rattles against the heat lamps, which means we have to wait for them to stop before we can hear the residents. In other words, people, I'm not a fish, tapping the glass doesn't make me move faster or want to dish up your liver'n'onions any faster. Just stop, please I beg of you!
