Background: I work at a drugstore as a *cashier* I also answer the phone. When I'm cashiering I have a small area around my register within I can roam (to do totes, pick up trash, point out product to customers, etc.) but I can't go farther than then in case a customer come to my register. (duh!) /end background
The phone rings today:
DW: <long ass annoying spiel>
Phone customer: *in a pushy demanding voice* I have a question about a product.
DW: just a moment let me get someone to help you.
PC: how long will that take?
DW: um, idk. I can't help you personally cause I can't leave my register. Let me get someone to help you.
PC:
DW: *puts him on hold and pages for assistance on that line*
A coworker picks up the line like 30 seconds later.
There was more to the conversation but the gist was the dude was pissed I wouldn't help him myself and he'd have to wait longer to find out if we carried whatever item it was he was looking for.
Granted sometimes no one will pick up the phone to help the customers (which is a whole 'nother rant all together) but I can only do so much. *sigh*
