  • You want us to WHAT?!!!

Yet another one fron the call center. I love that CCG always repeats what the caller says and talks about it after

    CCG: *opening spiel*
SC: I want to ship my boat and trailer.
CCG: Ok, is it on a pallet?
    SC: No.
CCG: Ok, I'm sorry, but it needs to be wrapped and secured to a pallet so it doesn't roll around or get damaged durring shipping. Can you get a pallet?
SC: Oh, I don't want it to go in the truck. I want you to pull it behing the truck.
CCG: You...want us to hitch your boat and trailer to a semi?!!!
SC: Yes, and seeing as it's not actually being shipped, can I just pay you like $200 for gas and whatever?
CCG: *at a loss wor words*......I-I-A-actually....sir....that isn't a service we offer.
    SC: Awweee why not??
CCG: Because we only ship things and don't offer a towing service....and it's dangerous to attach a 10' boat to a 30 or so foot semi.
SC: But I did it last year!
    CCG: Not with us.

    Ouch.... just Ouch....

I'd bet he's the type of person that wouldn't think twice to having a Honking Huge Motor Home towing a truck towing a boat and trailer towing a U-Haul either.

(Apparently, according to Canada's Worst Driver a few seasons back, it is legal to have a trailer towing a trailer, in certain specific conditions, but I don't think they would apply here.)

He may have called the wrong service.

When I moved from California to North Carolina, I found a company that was able to ship my cars for me (a Jeep and a Honda CRV) . . . it was winter, and I didn't fancy a drive through the Rockies in winter with a U Haul trailer. So I flew.

It's been 7 years, so I'm thinking it cost me around $800 to ship both of them. They were packed up on your typical car trailer like the kind you see shipping new cars to dealerships, and delivered to a towing company in the local area that had a contract to accept deliveries. I simply had a friend drop me off when the cars came in. The only irritating thing was they weren't shipped on the same trailer for some reason. I had to pick up the Jeep a week before I picked up the Honda. Fortunately, I had a soft top, but it still made for a chilly drive in January until my Honda arrived.

But that aside, it was totally worth it to move my cars that way, and I'd do it again if I made another cross country move.

Oh, there are definitely services out there that will haul a boat for you. Not behind a full trailer, as far as I know, however.

There are services that will ship your boat. Gonna cost more than $200, though. Significantly more.

From OP's earlier posts, I assume this is an LTL company (most common use for pups). It's unlikely their equipment would be set up to be able to tow the boat trailer (wrong electrical plug, ball-type hitch vs. pintle hook on the back of a pup, no electric brake controller). I wouldn't be surprised if the boat's beam exceeds 8'6" (making it an oversize load), and to top it off they want a DISCOUNT?

Since the company uses pups, they probably have a number of drivers qualified for doubles (since pups are frequently run that way), but even if everything could be arranged the customer should wind up paying the rate for a fully-loaded trailer, since with the boat trailer they'd only be able to run one pup instead of two.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

what in the blue heck is he smoking?!

That doesn't work! I remember my Dad's semi when he drove long haul. you would dragging the back of the boat on the ground, those hitches don't match.

Wow that is a whole new level of stupid

And would somebody stop my brain before it gets away, thanks.

We do LTL and TL so we have trucks of many sizes In the big trucks, we only ship pallets and in the pups we can do single boxes/barrels/whatever. We also have moving van sized trucks when a liftgate is needed.

I .. wish I could say that this was a very bad idea. I wish I could say that, but every other bad idea would form a union, come track me down, and beat me with a fish for implying that they had any association with this idea. If my brain hadn't already packed up and permanently moved to Hawaii without me, it would have melted out of my head.
