They come in for coffee every. single. morning. for YEARS. It's giftcard week, extremely busy, and this morning I was literally running (well, walking extremely fast) all morning. I am not exaggerating when I say I hit the ground running and didn't stop. You can see me from the dining room; it's VERY obvious how busy I am. Despite this, I saw how many seniors were in, so set up filters and coffee so I could just punch a button, and actually went out to check on coffee levels several times. I don't always. I made 4 or 5 pots in 2 hours, in between food prep (2 days' worth, mind you) and other customers. I ran my butt off, and at some point did run out of regular. One lady asked if there was any more, and I made a pot immediately. I helped other custys while it brewed. I found out later they complained to my boss--who took my side--that it wasn't brewing fast enough. OK, I can't make the machine go faster! I mean, I ran the cafe by myself all morning! But they don't see anything but their own needs, some of them. (Some are nice). At least my boss backed me up.

Seniors can be horribly entitled, and figure everyone should bend over backwards for them. I bet you gave them way more attention than they deserved, but many complain just because they can. I hope they tipped?
The Mall Walkers where I work tried to DEMAND I open the doors early for them. No, mall has posted hours, you get in when we open. My boyfriend said at the therapy center he's been going to, the seniors actually walk the building between doctor offices as their routine and had to be told by management that they couldn't hog all the patient parking!"If anyone wants this old box containing the broken bits of my former faith in humanity, I'll take your best offer now. You may be able to salvage a few of em' for parts..... " - Quote by Argabarga

Good for your boss. I don't understand why they think it can somehow go faster.
Sometimes, when my mom orders coffee, they'll have just run out and need to make a fresh one. They apologize a couple of times while telling her this and my mom just goes "it's ok, don't worry, it'll be fresh and even better, I can wait". There's this two second pause while the girl processes that and I can tell it helps her (since my mom says it loud enough for those already bitching to hear) LOL.
I'm glad your boss backed you up. It really is something you can't control. I'm guessing it's a free refill place? Or just tons of coffee sold?

Seniors have their routines and they enjoy and take comfort in them. They know what's coming - increased loss of mobility, mental functions going down, more friends dying, retirement home ... I used to be impatient with seniors in our store, but not anymore. They can take as much of my time as they want

Someone else had quoted it somewhere else on here:
"The Earth is not the center of the universe and neither are you"
I'd say that if they want faster coffee then go home and make it themselves. Your boss already backs you up, but I don't know if he would rather have customers that complain when you're doing your best, or no customers and the sound of peacefulness.

Some of the managers and the secretary would rather they stayed home. No matter how much coffee I make, it's not enough. And my coworkers have chatted with them so much that apparently they know stuff customers shouldn't. (Two managers have told me that). Some are nice, but as a group they're a nusiance. The one guy who totally understood how hard I worked and was never demanding died in a car accident."Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably

Yeah working at a mall convenience store has made me well aware of entitled elderly who abuse their age to gain sympathy, try to get free stuff, and be rude without consequence.
I guess more than anything I learned that the elderly are in fact, regular people, and can be just as nice or just as nasty as any other person. And like any regular person, at times they will use anything they can to make your life terrible.

There are nice seniors and there are nasty ones. Sometimes you get a concentration of one or the other in a place, and if it's the nasty ones it can make someone else's life hell. When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Coffee people in general, made my mornings Hell at the gas station.
And at my work, they make the janitors just livid. They can't keep up with making enough damn coffee for the day shifters and their 64 oz Mega Buddy mugs that they keep filling over and over.
I wonder if anyone on day shift actually works at my job, or if they just walk around and drink coffee all day.You really need to see a neurologist. - Wagegoth

I can be deeply sensitive to any whiff of discriminatory behavior, but when I worked at the Grease Factory, the seniors would make it so damn HARD. My sister has better stories about elderly scammers, though. I can only really vouch for the entitlement attitudes.
This was a horrible shame, because we also had a number of adorable old regulars who let you call them Auntie and thought the entitlement whores were appalling. Sometimes, though, they had good dish on the EW's: "She was a crabby young woman, too, dear; don't let her get you down. Never worked a day in her life until her husband ran off with their son's girlfriend..." It made dealing with them easier and ensured that, twit or Auntie, the elderly always got service with a smile...
