My store is in an upper middle class neighbourhood. We have more than one customer who between $300-$900 on a daily basis. Most of our sales are between $80-$200 and once or twice a week we will have a BIG sale of over 2 grand.
It's always super funny to me when a customer asks for a discount on a $300 sale "because I am buying so much"

I always nod, smile and call over a manager and ask on their behalf and the managers usually get a
look when they see their total, today one slipped and said "it's only 300 though?" and the woman got super mad about it.
I know $300 is a big amount for me and as she said, it was a big amount for her but her self important attitude didn't help when the manager had just okayed a discount for a $4000 order of curtains a hotel was buying from us. That's a "buying so much" discount. Not your new shower decorations lady!
She was super indignant when the manager wouldn't give her anything and threatened to leave it then when the manager said "Im sorry to hear that" and started to void her transaction she suddenly wanted to buy from us again. Bluff called.
