This story got under my skin. This morning one of the other housekeepers Jane came up to me all upset. Now jane is the sweetest, soft spoken, and most gentle people I have ever met. She just had vercose vein surgery and is on restrictions, so shes inspecting rooms. She said that she was up on third floor talking to the housekeepers and one of them told her a joke and she laughed.
About an hour later she got called into the office, a bitch had called down to the office and made a complaint. She said she was so upset cause she heard a housekeeper laughing in the hallway(gasp). She was so upset that she was checking out immedately and going to another hotel, where they know how to control their help.
We have a new hotel manager and he caves at every stupid customer complaint. He refunded her money, he refunds money for anything. I would have told her that there has to be an expected level of noise especically 11:30 in the morning. But what pissed me off and made jane mad, she described jane as a old wrinkled grey haired old woman.
Jane is a platium blond beautiful woman( with no wrinkles) in her early 60s. I told her not worry that woman is just probadly one of those people that live a pampered spoiled life. She has to make conflict. Jane just laughed as she ate her valentines cookie( that said cutie) I bought her

    Wow, entitled much??
"The peons are LAUGHING! How dare they! This is NOT ACCEPTABLE!"
At least she didn't demand that Jane get 60 lashes or something.
It's too bad your manager is so spineless. He could have suggested a nice place that is guaranteed to be quiet ... just don't fall over the headstones on your way through, ma'am.

These people are showing happiness at their jobs? How dare they?

I have no words. Someone needs to inform her that the days of serfs are over.

As for your manager - a jellfish has more spine, and more use.

This is totally mind boggling. What does she expect a bubble of silence?

Wow. That's just stupid. It's a real shame the guy refunded her.

And personally, happy maids tend to do a better job than bitter ones. I'd be thrilled if they were laughing while they worked.

She's probably one of those paranoid types that think everbody is laughing at her. And maybe they should be. What a twat. I'm glad Jane didn't let it bother her, but it's too bad the manager hasn't got a spine.

Thats funny cause the student union was at one time a family farm in the old days. There is a family grave yard right on the side of the building.

Nah, she expects the peons to crawl and cringe and genuflect to every customer they see. Nasty hag, I hope she ends up in a hotel where the staff is on strike and the manager is a hardass.

I read about this in a Dilbert cartoon long before I ever saw it in action, but now I can safely say that it's hardly a joke: there are actually people out there who think that being happy at work is the same as stealing. The bizarro logic is that if you're experiencing personal satisfaction in any way, you'd be there anyway, so why should we pay you? Evidently labor is only a commodity when it's a drudge.

It's kind of a scary thing to see in action, because the people who believe it are so joyless. Fortunately, I've just had the one boss who went out of his way to crush any joy his employees experienced so that he could feel that he was getting his money's worth.

What the hell, does she want the staff fitted with those anti-bark shock collars? Say nothing, just do the work and simper when I give you the honor of looking at you! Glad you got your coworker to laugh at it.
Okay everyone, lets all point and laugh at him right about....

Am I the only one who noticed her complaint coincided with checkout time? Convenient how "terrible" the service was just in time for her to check out after a full night's sleep and breakfast.

With few exceptions, if any of my guests are looking for freebies, they complain about stuff at checkout. At my hotel they usually don't get it because they never spoke up when the problem arose.

But sadly, as evidence by this thread, the tactic must work.

Someone is happy at work? No, it can't be! That SC must need the tears of a thousand disheartened workers to sustain her or something to be so offended by some mild laughter. What a c**t.

Oh boy, I agree with the complaints on check out = looking for freebies. Can't have employees enjoying their jobs, can they? Gads, what a piece of work and the manager is no better!
