  • Overreacting (long)

I recently quit my job at a well-known fast food joint. I had been working there for two years and by then I’d seen a number minor and major sucky customers. My main pet peeve was people who grossly overreacted to the problem at hand.

Usually this was something like someone throwing their food on the counter and yelling at the top of their voice because something wasn’t right, but a few people took their overreactions to extreme levels.

A few months into my job I’d just gone on lunch break and was going to grab my bag when I heard yelling and the sound of glass breaking. I went out the front and saw a car racing out of drive thru. What happened?

The frozen coke was in defrost and the manager ( a short, 7 month pregnant woman in her late 20s) had replaced me as order taker in drive thru. Of course, frozen coke is popular enough that it can get ordered while it’s in defrost and this happened that day. The manager told the customer: “I’m sorry frozen coke is in defrost for the next 15 minutes, is there anything you’d like instead?”

Scary customer, a guy in his mid 20s in a beat up car yelled “what the ****, I want frozen coke you *****”

The manager started to respond and ask Scary Customer to stop swearing but before she had finished speaking he raced up to the first window where the manager was and jumped out of the car.

The manager, afraid because of his angry expression and behaviour shut the window.

So the customer’s natural response was to punch the reinforced glass hard enough so it shattered over my pregnant manager then race off.

Geez… a new kind of coke related crime.

On the up side, he'd probably be easy to pick up at the local hospital if he used his hand.

To be honest, I'm not sure whether they ever caught the guy. It was certainly reported, and one of the other girls at work said she knew who the guy was (a friend's ex appparently) but I never heard about court appearances (though with security footage and everything he may just have confessed) or anything. I might ask sometime when I pop in.

For the record the manager was unharmed, just shaken up.

Wow that is a heck of an over reaction. Personally I think that is why every drive through (or similar) should have a security camera. Not only to prosecute, but to post on things like youtube so that the culprit can't go anywhere without somebody recognizing them.

Oh my word. Too bad it didn't cut his wrist.

You might call it something different but it's basically an ice slushy done with coke. If you like coke you'll probably like it, especially on hot days.

Doesn't your drive thru have surveillance cameras?

ICEE (if I remember correctly .. could be slush puppy or something along that lines) was originally brought about by somebody leaving a coke too long in the freezer. So frozen coke has been around awhile, and it is very good. I prefer the cherry Icee a little more, however.

ICEE was the inventor. Then licensed to 7-11 where they called it a Slurpee. Slush Puppy is another branding from ICEE. According to Wiki, the inventor left bottles of soda in the freezer because he didn't have a fridge. Since they were popular like that, the rest is history.

OP mentioned that yeah, it was all caught on camera.

And not to be nosey, but yeah, my curiosity is overwhelming me. <_< If you ever get the chance, could you find out if anything came of it?

Apparently it's so delicious that you'll punch through reinforced glass to get it.

Good enough that I had someone threaten to call my boss about my "Coke Habit"

                          I posted that story here

I like em to melt a bit because the mix is sweeter and more syrupy than Coke from a can or bottle.

Oh man, I love cola slushies. When I was a kid we were visiting Atlanta and we went for slushies, and I got one because they were out of everything else. I thought the idea was weird but it was love at first sip.
