  • Whitney Houston and Breaking dawn

Whitney Houston hasnt been relevant in years, so we don't carry any of her music, nor any of her movies. People were acting like I kicked their dog when I would tell them we have none of merchandise.

We had a special version of the Breaking Dawn DVD that contained flower petals from the wedding scene. A COA was also there to they were legit. All of signage said they were extremely limited and once they were gone, they were gone. I probably had 10 nasty phones about why none were left 36 hours after they went on sale..

glad this day is f'ing over

Wow, sounds like you had just a wonderful day ... not.

Guess it was a combination of "don't/can't read" and the belief that "just-in-time" shipping means the stuff they want will be in the stores 30 seconds after they decide they want it.

I can sympathize about the Whitney Houston thing. A few years back another music artist passed (can't even remember who it was now) and our manager set up a display with his music. Because as you know, nothing sells like death. It was a nice display and made it easy for folks to find his music, and we had a few choice customer comments how nice *our store* was to honor his music while our competitors clearly didn't care. If only they knew the real reason our store had such a nice display set out.

I used to work in the Call Center for a mail order music club (get 12 CD's for the price of 1 ). Every time an artist died, no matter how old or insignificant we were flooded with calls wanting their music. And the customers always seemed to think it was the CSRs fault if it was not available through the club. Never mind that we had to have contracts with the labels and artists for anything we offered.

You probably also kicked more puppies and ate more orphans by not carrying The Bodyguard on DVD.

I'm patiently waiting a few weeks to purchase Breaking Dawn so I don't have to fight hordes of 12 year old girls to grab my copy and a poster of Edward that I can rub all over myse- I mean, put on my wall.

                    Seriously?

Flower petals? I hope they're not real. Sure wouldn't last long if they were.

Personally, I'm very sad that she's dead. I will always love her music. Her voice was so angelic.

They're probably dried. They'd last more than long enough.

Well, her tragic, untimely death is making international headlines at the moment, and, even if one was not a fan, that does seem just a bit callous. (Not really sure if that was your intent.)

As with any celebrity death, there is always renewed interest in their career, and their music/movies, etc. suddenly become an "in demand" item.
Like how one of my coworkers saw me listening to a John Lee Hooker album - this was shortly after his death.

Him: Are you listening to that just because he's dead?
Me: Um, no I bought this a while ago.
                            Him: O. Good then.
