  • Reading Comprehension? WHUZZAT

Short and sweet and utterly FACEPALM.

Background: Listed a DVD on Amazon, stated that it was in Very Good condition, no original insert, disc was in near pristine shape, and the case did have some shelf wear.

Dear seller, thank you for the detailed description, but I need more details. Is this DVD in mint or near mint condition? please rate everything from a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being gem mint.

Dear Customer, I'm very sorry, but as stated on the item's listing, its not mint, its in very good condition. The disc's rating would be a 9, 9.5, but it has been viewed at least once, so it is not mint.

seller, thank you, but I need to make sure that everything is good. is the plastic showing any signs of wear/rips/etc? does the disc have any scratches? is the case cracked/have a broken hub/etc? again, you can use the rating system.

Dear Customer, Again, this is NOT a mint condition DVD. It is a USED copy. If you are looking for a mint copy, may I suggest purchasing a factory sealed one.

seller, I don't wish to purchase one of those, as they are much, much more expensive. i'd rather pay $6 than $45, as you can understand. now, does this include the original insert? is the insert bent/torn/folded/ etc? please use a rating when you reply. thanks.

Dear Customer, again, as my listing stated, this is a USED copy, and does NOT have the insert. There actually is no original insert for this particular movie, it only came with a contest mailer postcard, which was long, long expired. Again, you seems to be more in the market for a new copy. I understand your wish to save money, but if you are looking for a perfect copy, you will DEFINITELY not find it in the Used section. Have a good day!

I guess I will not be buying your item then, if it is not in gem mint condition. I will just have to find someone else to buy it from...

Dear Customer, I figured that a while back.

Makes you just want to do the repeatedly until you lose consciousness, doesn't it?

I see the same thing at times, except I'm dealing with people face to face. Usually it's in regards to whether we have an item in stock (and if I have to go through the whole spiel about FDA recalls for Excederin and tylenol products ONE MORE TIME . . . GRRRRRRRRRRR)

See, and I'm having the opposite problem. My item is listed as "brand new sealed in original packaging."

"Is it new? Is it sealed? Is it in the original packaging?"

"Oh I think I'll buy it used." - Never mind that I'm actually selling it cheaper than some of the used copies.

Ogod, I had a few of those back when I was selling off some of my old video games. I was like NO DUDE ITS WRAPPED IN NEWSPAPERS. <facepalm>

It is aggrivating! We write detailed item descriptions precisely so we don't have to answer a billion questions...then some schmuck who can't be bothered to read asks the billion questions anyway!!!

You want to grab the idiot by the back of the neck and until they get some sense knocked into them, or they become a bloody mangled mess, whichever comes first.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

I get these emails on Cragis List ads all the time. I find my self using the phrase "as it states in the ad" over and over, hoping to someday, just once, having someone, somewhere finally grasp the concept that you can get information from reading the ad, not just looking at the pretty pictures.

And geez, they want mint condition, but are shopping second hand for bargains? How cheap can you get? Never mind, just yesterday I had someone want something cheaper than I had it listed in my ad (it was already about 1/3 retail, and still new-in-packaging), plus they expected me to deliver it across town. SO not gonna happen.

            Madness takes it's toll....

Bad Merriweather! You should have responded, 'certainly, I can deliver it across town. The delivery fee is $100.00. As soon as I have received and cashed your money order for the item + delivery, I will hand deliver it to you.'

Add $50 to delivery fee every time they start complaining. "Oh, I'm sorry, the delivery fee is now $150, $200, ...

Oh dear, I wish I hadn't read this. The stupid burns behind my eyes. It sounds to me like they just did a search for the item they wanted and didn't bother to read the listing before emailing you. Yikes.

I know that were I a small-time seller operating on eBay, I'd likely block anyone asking questions that were already answered in the listing. It'd be guaranteed if it was part of the title.

For Craigslist, I could totally see putting a line in the ad stating that anybody not starting their question with that line would go straight in the trash. That would get rid of the spammers pdq. Then you'd just need to set a filter that would route those to your inbox and the rest to the trash.

I gett that too in my sporadic attempts to sell my old desk and my waterbed. I put in the ad "buyer must pick up". There ain't no way my old desk or my bed, even after it's broken down, are gonna fit in my '96 Saturn SC2.

Yet, I get "Can you bring it out to Edgewood?" or "Can you meet me halfway?" Edgewood is about 40 miles away from me on the other side of the mountains!

I think I'd just reply with, "Please read the description I posted." And just keep sending that until they get the point. Too lazy to read? Too bad!

I feel your pain. I've got some gaming material listed on eBay. It's shrink wrapped.

I get an email asking me if the map is included

I've had several offers for a dresser on Craigslist this week. When I ask them to meet me at the local Food Lion, they never respond. *sigh*

My all-time favourite was the woman who wanted me to bring an item to her at her shop downtown "as I lived only a few miles away and it would only take me a few minutes". When I refused, stating the drive would be a few minutes, followed by either circling for half an hour for a place to park, or parking in a parking garage and walking several blocks (on a bad knee), she then suggested I simply stop in front of her shop, honk the horn, and she'd come out and get it and pay me. She actually expected me to stop my car, block traffic, in heavy Christmas traffic, on the largest, most through street in the downtown area, while waiting on her to hear a horn through a closed shop door, possibly waiting for her to finish with a customer, and almost certainly getting a traffic ticket I flat out told her she was crazy, and added her to my "never sell to, deal with, or even answer emails" list. Talk about entitlement

If I said it once, I've said it a million times..reading it is fundamental but SC's and EW's are doing it wrong.

You literally could have a story high billboard complete with glowing arrows, neon, etc..and STILL they would swear up and down they did not know.
