  • "You guys will have bigger problems."

So this one happened to one of my employees on my shift today and it made me lol. I sent her out to clean the lobby and she does everything and then she starts mopping. A lady stops her while she is mopping and says this:
"Excuse me, but I think it is rude that you would mop while the store is open. How is anyone supposed to get out?" (Keep in mind I work at McDs)
My employee "I can wait until you leave if you'd like me to."
SC "Hmph. If someone slips and falls, you guys are gonna have bigger problems than a few crumbs on the ground." (Also keep in mind that my employee had put up 3 wet floor signs, including one RIGHT IN FRONT of this lady.)

Seriously, I have never seen anyone get offended about us mopping before. It's not even like there is puddles of water or anything. The ground is barely wet and after this lady left and my employee mopped I timed how long it took for the ground to dry completely and it took all of 3 and a half minutes. We mop out there, while open, at least 4 times a day and in the 5 years I have worked there not a single person has slipped or even lost balance.

I often slip on those wet floors, but then I have a physical handicap and have to use a cane. I move VERRRRRRYYY slowly, and every single time, the person mopping keeps a real close eye on me when they see me slow down to cross (of course, I also tend to apologize for crossing right after they cleaned it!). I've never fallen, but I am sure if I started to, that employee would have tried to help.
Some people just love to be jerks. That mopping helps esp. if someone spills a bit of their sticky soda and doesnt bother to mention it.

10 to 1 odds she's the same person who complains if there's a spot of ketchup on the floor as well. Some people just want something to complain about.

      Madness takes it's toll....

AND if they don't clean the floors then the SC's get upset about that too. Can't win either way.

It gets worse. When I still had a job as a janitor, most consumers would deliberately walk through my wet floor cones.

It reached a point where I actually wanted them to slip and fall, and crash into a great deal of inventory, just to get the point across.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

A few years ago, me and a former co-worker were cleaning the ladies room, the mens room, and the hallway between the restrooms and the breakroom -- not clean clean but tidy up a bit. She had mopped the ladies room floor, I had gotten the wet floor sign out just as a customer came in. Not only did we BOTH tell her that the floor was still a bit wet, I had the floor sign in a place where people would have to step around it.

We were still in there, getting the sinks real quick when the customer came out of the stall, slipped, and FELL on the floor. We made sure that the customer was alright, but she wasn't at all mad about it -- in fact, she said it was her own fault for going so fast when the floor was still so wet. We did tell the manager about it just in case, nothing came about from it other then a nice letter from the customer for thanks for keeping the restrooms clean.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

Sigh. Yeah, you can never win. Happens at my mall all the time. Bitch about dirty floors, bitch about wet floors, and walk through the wet floor signs anyway. Cleaning and self-absorbed customers have almost come to blows a few times over it; we sided with cleaning, because they were perfectly within their right to tell people not to walk on the wet floors but the customers got soooo offended that the 'help' DARED speak to them! Grrrrrrr...... Thing is, even if it's totally their fault for falling, they'll probably still get an insurance pay-out because it's cheaper to give it to them to go away then it is to defend yourself in court and win!

Let me guess, kind of waspy looking (in the stinging insect sense), looks like somebody's always holding a little turd right under her nose?

Forget it, people like that are completely incapable of be satisfied or happy.

                Ever.

Apologize for whatever outrage they're upset about, work around 'em and get on with your life, they're not worth the effort.

How is it rude to mop a floor?? I'm convinced SCs don't know the meaning of the word. They throw it around like the term "false advertising."

Even worse - college students walking through a freshly-waxed portion of floor, even though it was blocked off with cones, signs, and some portions with rope.

My co-worker who was waxing finally had it and at the seems-like-1,000th person who walked through.
