  • Luggage carts

We have 3 luggage carts at our hotel for 85 rooms. Of the 5 nights a week I work on at least 3 nights someone keeps one of the luggage carts in their room all night, some times 2 are kept in rooms all night. We actually got the third cart because this is such a problem. I can't believe that people are so self centered that they don't even consider that other guest might have luggage too. (I take it back, I can believe people are that self centered.
I wish we could put some kind of device on them that would make them start making a loud noise at 3am if they aren't returned to the lobby. Or better yet if they emit a horrible odor, that would be so great!

This reminds me of a story and I can't remember if I posted this or not. I had an SC check in and asked us where our luggage carts were. Since there were none in the usual spot, I went to check the halls. I managed to find a grand total of one cart (out of two). The SC uses the cart. Later on in the evening, another guest needed a cart. Again I go look for carts and none of them were in the halls. I drew the conclusion that the original SC had taken the cart to her room.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...

You should make them "chirp" like a fire alarm when the battery is going dead. Maybe once every five minutes. Add a proximity sensor that disables it when it is in the lobby.

In the absence of the above wonderful suggestions, how about a sign stating that carts must be returned to the lobby or the hotel will add X dollars to the nightly room charge. Nothing causes a reaction like telling people they have to pay for something. And it can be your little secret that you have no way of tracking the carts.

They won't return them to the lobby. They'll stick them in the hall.

But at least you'll be able to locate them.

I'm confused. Why would anyone want to have a luggage cart in their room? Most of the rooms I've rented don't have a lot of extra room, and if someone has a high dollar room...with lots of space...wouldn't it ruin the look?

So they don't have to go find one for check out.

                Convenience.
SC's thoughts: I have so much stuff that I neeeed a cart and I don't want anyone else to take it. I'll just keep it in my room so I can use it tomorrow morning too. Surely I'm more important than anyone else and I'm the only one who needs it.

Ever see the bitching when a SC is told they can't keep the cart? It ain't pretty.

Oh, no, not an odor, housekeeping would have to deal with that. And not a loud sound, you might disturb other guests. How about something low and constant, like a dripping faucet, if kept more than an hour or so? And then nails on chalkboard after another hour?

How about a loud voice that says, "Hey, Asshole! Return this cart to the lobby so somebody else can use it!"

                    Or would that be rude?

There'd probably be people who keep the cart anyway and then when they see the extra charge claim that there was no such sign and refuse to pay the charge.

We had someone steal one of our luggage carts once. What the hell are you going to with a luggage cart in your everyday life?

                          You asked.

I'm glad we don't have luggage carts at my motel. Our guests don't like it, but I'm cool with it.

Go to ThinkGeek and get an Annoyatron device and attatch it to the underside of the cart.

No, I know. They should have a device that sounds like a phone and an answering machine.

                              "Hello. This is your mother-in-law . . ."
