  • Wherein I Destroy a Client's Dreams and Spirit

I so needed this. You have NO IDEA.

BG: Potential client asks for pricing list for a project, and then looks over my portfolio.

PC: I'd like the cheapest design package you have, and I want it to be similar to <this super nice website>.

Seraph: Ok, well, unfortunately that website you're looking at is actually <higher priced package>. However, I can go on ahead and if you are willing to take a bit of a hit on the details, I can do a middle road for you.

PC: WTF, what a ripoff! lemme look around some more at some of the other sites. that site doesnt look like it was that good anyways...

Seraph: Well, actually, it still involved a lot of work, and several stock photos needed to be purchased. Like I said though, I'm willing to work with you on it.

PC: Changed my mind. I want a site like this, <really REALLY professionally done website, that's not mine, for one thing>.

Seraph: ....Yeah. That's actually going to be above <highest priced package>. That's an insane amount of work there, and a LOT of time involved. You're also looking at quite a bit of custom coding. So, base cost, just even with a basic two page design (which you'll need, at MINIMUM the two pages done up), probably around $375.

PC: you're a f***ing liar and a cheat! I can get that done up at half the cost, probaly even less!!!!

Seraph: Well, you're actually in luck, I know who did that design, and how much that website paid for it.

PC: good. gimme their info, I'll just get them to do it instead of your stupid company.

Seraph: Here you go, their website is here, and they told me they were able to give them a very good deal on the work, actually.

PC: hahaha knew it. what did they charge them?

Seraph: Oh, they only charged them $60,000 for it.

I laughed so hard at the ending. Why do people think they can get something great for almost no money? (Or shit, even free?)

People see all these ads that talk about getting your own website, how easy it all is, how cheap it is, and can't grasp the cocept that a. is isn't as simple and quick as the ads imply, and b. every thing has levels. They think a website is a website, and they can have one that looks like a fortune 500 company's for the lowest price out there.

Maybe put it to them this way - websites are like cars, you can get a nice little Kia that'll get you to work and back, or you can pay a whole lot more and get a Rolls that'll not only get you to work, but have "extra" luxury features & impress everyone as well. Some people just need to get back and forth to work, and are happy with a Kia. Others want the luxury and/or impressiveness of the Rolls. Absolutely nothing wrong with which one you want, but you absolutely are not going to get a Rolls for the price of a Kia.

              Madness takes it's toll....
              Please have exact change ready.

I just got an image of the SC vanishing in a poof of smoke at his keyboard when he realized his worldview of nothing ever costing more than maybe $100 at most was shattered.

Merriweather, can I use that? I'm typing up a FAQ on quilt costs and it's just perfect.

I noticed Seraph's and my dueling Ultimate/Epic brohoofs got deleted. Probably because of bandwidth issues.

                            Sorry about that!

If you still want to see the most epic of brohoofs, clicky.
