Darn, I don't get the We Killed Spongebob reference, and it's making me laugh

"I won't tell" would get a "not good enough by any stretch of the imagination" response from me...you know, some things I won't do just on principle, not just because I might get caught if I do them. Cuntburgers indeed. (good one blas )

This link should clear that up. Aquaman also died, but no-one cares about him. XD

          Aquaman died? That's so depressing.

When we use to pump gas people would only buy $5 or so at a time. When you just knew in about 30 minutes they would be back for $5 again.

Asking them why they just didn't put say $20 or even fill up the first time would always get the "I can't afford it" answer. I use to always laugh my ass off when the computer would go down or we had noone to run the pumps, call off, getting sick and leaving etc....

The answer to the "Well what am I going to doooo?" question was... Drive 5 minutes down the road and pump your own. If you don't like pumping your own then start putting more gas in your tank than $5 50 times a day. Shit happens.

I remember when my tank wouldn't hold $5 of gas! (15 gallon tank)

I remember how, when I first started driving in 1985, gas was over $1.00 a gallon (egads!), then at some point in the next couple of years it went back down to maybe $0.70/gal for 87 octane or whatever the cheapest unleaded was at that time. Hard to believe now.

BTW, just how fucking hard is it to pump your own gas??? I grew up in New Jersey where it's still illegal to pump your own, and I learned how to do it on my drive to Florida to live here. Sure, weather can be a factor but most modern service stations have some kind of roof over the pumps, at least, so you don't have to stand there getting soaked or frozen or sunburned. Buncha crybabies. (No offense to anyone here who hates to pump their own )

According to the Oregonians that came up the I-5 corridor to where I worked at one point, it's a US law...

We love your no Sales Tax, but we hate your demanding... ness when it comes to no longer having someone else pump your gas or when you're not buying something lasting.

In my petrol station, and all the others as far as I know, all the pumps are self service. Yes, you can come in and request that you get your petrol pumped, but unless you're disabled, you're going to be waiting a while.

One guy who used to drive in and demand service at the pumps despite not being disabled used to firstly show up at a time where we were totally slammed and secondly beep his horn obnoxiously. Sometimes he'd be leaning on the horn at a time when someone was actually coming out.

Once, he leant on the horn letting it sound continuously at a time where there were just two of us there, and there was a giant queue of customers practically stretching thru the door. There was no way that either of us was going to be able to go and help him; the queue was clearly visible from the forecourt, yet he still leant on his horn. Eventually, my collegue went out there and gave him a telling off for being so rude. We never saw him there again, so it did some good. XD

I could never understand why people would just put a little gas in their tanks. I have always filled mine, and had a credit card to pay for it so I wouldn't have to worry about having enough cash. My first credit card was a gas credit card, and the only one I had for years. It's not like I wasn't going to buy it eventually anyway, might as well get it in one stop.

As I think about it, constantly running your car with an almost empty tank could be bad for the engine. With only a few gallons in the tank, more of the dirt and sludge on the bottom gets stirred up and run through the engine. With a full tank, that doesn't happen as much.

I wish I would have thought about that back then. Would have made it less streeful. Just thinking that they are running more dirt through the engine........ SMILE

That doesn't make any sense to me, either. Apart from your excellent explanation of sediment damage, why would anyone make more stops than necessary? Scrape together the money and fill up the tank!

Me, I don't like running my tank down to empty. I'm scared that I'll be stranded in a rough neighborhood or out in the middle of nowhere when the gas runs out. So I fill the tank even when I still have a quarter of a tank left. I don't know if that'll do anything to the car, but my own peace of mind is more important.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

...Until, of course, they pull the "I am a lawyer! I've never heard of any such law! You WILL stay open later and serve me!"

To which, one proper response would be, "Very well, madam...but -- oh, yes, you already know this, of course -- you see, claiming to be a lawyer if you're not one would be fraud, naturally. May I have the card to your law firm, please? I'll have our company lawyers contact you directly, and they'll take care of you."
i've heard that was illegal but wasn't sure. so i googled it.

found a nice story from last year about a woman getting 8 years in prison for claiming to be a lawyer (mind you she was also scamming people for $$$, but still it's enough to put some fear into those "i'm a lawyer!" liars i bet)

around here my favorite gas station (attached to my usual grocery store) closes at 10. but most times i usually have my gas already. even if i'm closing and need gas, i'm usually out the door by 2130 at the latest so ... i still have time to make it. but if i didn't, well there's two MAJOR truck stops on the way home. (seriously one of them even has showers), so it's a sure thing they'll be open.

Heh. According to the article, it is a minor Felony. I didn't know that there was a specific crime associated with that, I figured it would simply be considered "fraud". Live and learn.

PS I guess I should have been clearer on my last post -- Just in case someone making one of these claims IS actually an attorney (I don't know anyone in that profession that actually calls themself a "lawyer". dead giveaway right there), it almost certainly does become the responsibility of your company's legal department to deal with it, for liability purposes...and the genuine article would already know this. At the very least, escalate to the highest-level Manager available. Dealing with attorneys, fake or real, is above most of our pay grades.
