  • You Just Killed What Brain Cells I Had Left. Thanks.

Worked for about four days on a project for someone, and afterwards, tallied stuff up, and shot over the invoice. It was for about $400, which is a great deal for the amount of work I did for them, and I even had given them a discount.

Client promptly complains about the "stupid high costs" and tells me that he's going to have to consider paying it, blah blah.

Few minutes later, he posts on FB about "WOOOO bought mah new boat, up to three now ". Complete with pics and everything.

    .....wait wat?

Of course, if he doesn't pay up within a week, this means war.

Edit: To head off questions, not terribly THAT worried about not getting paid. I know a LOT of the people he works with, and I can get that money supply cut off super quick if I so felt like it. He knows, and I'm sure he'll pay up, he's just always super cranky about paying anything.

You should post on his facebook page "Nice boat. I hope I don't have to put a lien on it."

The really sad thing is, folks like this make their money buy stiffing their suppliers as much as possible. They hold off on paying you as long as possible, while going after money they are owned like pigs after truffles.

The one point in your favour is that, by simple code, you can make your product unusable until payment is complete. Of course you do have to take your professional/hardass ratio into consideration. Sometimes though more "hardass" can equal more professional. (please note my very careful use of quote marks)

Ohhhh, trust me. That's only part of what I could do, LOL. I could set several of his partnerships on full flame should it actually come down to it. But, it shouldn't, as I said. He's just always like this, complaining constantly.

Difficult to do that with graphics, but watermarks work just as well, anyways.

At first I thought, "well maybe he didn't realize the initial cost of professional work like that. It's not like he's buying a stuffed animal from Wal Mart compared to a handmade item like the ones sold by CS.com members.."

..but since you said, "He's always like this", I realized what forum I was on.

Seraph, you must really enjoy your line of work... four solid days for $400, and the grief you go through to get it? That's quite a deal. And certainly quality web design is not a skill easy to pick up; if it were, so many people wouldn't be so bad at it.

Requires good taste, which Seraph clearly has. Pity her customers don't have it.

Not *solid* days of work, but yes, even still, a good deal for what I did, yeah.

Hay! I'll have you know that as a very satisfied customer of Seraph, I have good taste. (Taste enough to defer to her when she says "This will look good" at any rate)

Great, now I have an image in my head of Seraph walking into an S&M club and asking "Can you demand that I create a large number of custom-designed websites for a ridiculously low price?"
