  • General ahole customer rant

I work in the bowling industry.
I'm the guy that fixes the machines that set up your pins, keeps your score and does general building repairs.
I have lot's of a-hole customer stories, but here's the most recent.
I come in to work really early today just because I had yesterday off.
    I work 6 days a week and pull a double on Sunday's.
Imagine how happy I was when I noticed that one of our wonderful customers thought it would be a good idea to dump a bag or so of cat litter down all of the sink drain's in the men's bathroom!!
Of course we have tournament's all day today so useable sink's aren't really optional.
I tried all the usual fixes after cleaning up what I could but they still won't drain.
I should mention that all 3 sinks drain into a common pipe in the wall.
I figured maybe if I used the toilet plunger I might be able to get at least one sink working.
So guess what? When I plunge the sink, of course the pipe in the drain trap bursts!
So all the sink's are now draining fine,,,, into the pail I had to put under the broken pipe.
    Unbelievable!!

That reminds me of when we had a "guest" at the motel I once worked who poured what had to have been an entire box of instant mashed potatoes down a bathroom sink. It was like a sludgy cement when housekeeping discovered it, but quickly dried to a hard cement before maintenance got to it. It required a deep, forced RotoRooter to break it up.

Oh, that's just ridiculous. Not that I don't believe it happened, but that somebody would be that foolish as to put an entire bag of cat litter down a sink.

It does beg the question of what someone was doing in a bowling alley with a bag of cat litter though....

The mindset behind that kind of pointless vandalism is beyond baffling. Seriously, what is the point of destroying a bathroom? Everybody needs to use it, why wreck it? What is the vandal trying to prove (beside the fact that he's a worthless asshole)?

If this keeps up, places with public restrooms are going to have to set up cameras to catch the vandal in the act. Is that what these idiots truly want?!

I'm sorry you had to deal with that, Mechanic. That's going to cost a pretty penny to fix.

That was my first thought as well.

Yeah, I never could get that either, it's just as you said, pointless. Most crimes at least have some sort of reason or logic behind them (no matter how warped it might be) where you see that the criminal gets something from it - theft or robbery to gain money or goods, assault or vandalism aimed at a specific person or business to gain revenge for some real or imagined wrong to them, but just general vandalism, nope, just don't get it.

            Madness takes it's toll....

I think I have a reason behind most vandalism...

              Boredom.

On those 'dumb criminal' shows they've had a few vandalisms by teenagers and the common factor seems to be boredom. They're idle and got nothing better to do.

Yup, it comes down to "Can we get away with it?" And, as we've often found, they do.

I got bored as a teenager, I still do. But I don't destroy other people's things, because that's wrong. Are you bored? Go read a book, watch a movie, listen to some music, spend time with friends, take a walk, play a game. There are loads of legal, harmless things to do to alleviate boredom that won't cost you a stay in jail and someone else a lot of money.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for the "I'm destructive because I'm bored" idiots. Assholes like that cost me an expensive car repair, and who knows how many other problems.

Myself, I can ALWAYS find something to do when I'm not working. However I run into the opposite problem: too much to do and not enough time in the day to get everything done I want to.

We have had employees do that when something changes at work as if to "punish" the company. Normally the item that has changed has been outside of our control completely.

We couldn't understand it then let alone in the situation OP has!

They were out to cause trouble, pure and simple. Could have been vengeance for something, or just criminal mischief.

I remember watching one of those "Caught on Camera" type of shows a few years ago where some teenagers in a rural area had killed a dog, first torturing it ( ) and videotaping the whole thing. Of course they were caught, and when one of them was asked outside the courthouse why they did it, he said, and I quote..."We was bored." No remorse or realization that this was not normal...more like he figured the reporter would say "Ohhhh, ok, I can see how that would make sense then." Very sad...for these young people as well as for their victims.
