I came in and said, "Hey Mom, Dad, The salesman outside the door came to me in the TV room and wants me to use me as his pawn in his attempt to con you guys into buying this timeshare. He wants me to say things to the effect of "Wow! This place is really neat!" and "Can we live here forever?" and other stuff like that.
wow...i remember when they didn't have a Disney channel...however did i survive?
We like to awe the children with the misery of our childhoods by telling them about the "old" days when there were only 3 television channels, no home computer, no Gamecube or DS, no DVD, DVR, CDs or MP3s, and no air conditioning in the car! The absolute horror of such a childhood causes them to actually extend some pity and sympathy to us, and cut back on the whining.

I was pretty happy with Shining Time Station and Duck Hunt.
Hell......I'd rather play my old NES than ever touch any of those new video game systems. Mostly because I'm not a big gamer (in fact I really can't stand video games, just love the intrigue of old Mario Bros and Pac Man).
Back on topic, I agree with everyone. I am very sick and tired of people who think that just because they have children that they are entitled to the most VIP, pampering treatment in the world. They should always come first.....because we childless and spouseless people are just plain worthless to society, right?
When I was a kid, I was content with either a book, or someone to listen to me babble. Didn't take much more than that to entertain me, and I certainly was not dependent on the TV.
And Mongo? I can totally see myself doing the same thing with my parents when I was young if a timeshare gent tried to pull that bit.

Try growing up being raised by my dad, who grew up during the Depression on a ranch with no electricity, no central heat, no running water, no tractor just horses for the plows etc. He and my uncle slept on a screen porch year round, the snow used to drift over their blankets. He had zero patience for our whining about weeding the yard or not having color TV.

I don't think anyone is saying that childfree people don't matter, but I can see where people with children could ask for certain concessions.
Do I feel they should expect special concessions?
No.
I can simply see that there are times when people shopping with small children might welcome a bit of a break by having someone allow them to step ahead in a line so they can get out quicker.
Did I say they should expect that they be allowed to cut in line because they have children?
No.
Children are small and less able to cope with situations such as power outages, furnace breakdowns, or the like. Broken appliances can also cause a burden on a household with children. (washer/dryer, fridge, stove)
I can certainly see where a person would ask that rush service or priority be given to their situation because of the fact that children are involved.
Did I say they should expect to have that given to them?
No.
I am simply saying that, while I wouldn't personally use the child as a freebie grabber, in a situation where it is relevant, I can see why a person might put forward the fact that they have children in an effort to be accommodated.
There have been many times when I have actually gone out of my way to give that type of service to someone with a child, simply as a random act of kindness.
Note that I said nothing about cable or TV being of any priority at all when it comes to children.
There is really something terribly wrong with people who use the TV as a babysitter for their children, and consider it an emergency when it is out of use.
Duck hunt! My brother had Sega (old school); I wasn't half bad with that cheesy little gun. We also had a Texas Instruments game system - Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Space Invaders...
My favorite (and the one I was best at) was Super Mario Brothers. The old school, 2-D, just runs one direction across the screen, original Super Mario Brothers. I used to play at the bowling alley every week, and I babysat for a kid when I was in HS, we used to play while his sister napped. My brother has an X-Box, Playstation, I don't know what else. When he still lived at home I tried one of the newer incarnations of Mario, with the 3-D graphics and everything, and I just couldn't get the hang of moving him around properly.
