  • I don't want these....I don't either

This happened a few years ago when I was working for Wally World in the One-Hour Photo dept. For those of you who don't know wally's policy about their send out service, they will take off the cost of prints that you don't want on the first time developement. This is important to the story.

    Cast:
Me: Your one hour photo lead
SM: Best boss ever at Wally
DM: District Mang with a backbone
    SC: Take a wild guess

So, I am working and a woman comes up to the counter, I then ask if I can help her. She said that she needed to pick up an order.

Me: Ok, do you have the slips/receipts?
    SC: No
Me: Ok, no problem last name?
    SC: ******
I then look through the drawers and find her order, HOLY SHIT she has 4 evelopes of pics and they are full to almost bursting the bag. I do a quick look and they are about $300 worth of pics.

Me: Ok ma'am here you go, would you like to pay for them here or take them with you?
SC: I'll take them to the front.
Me; Ok, have a nice day.

I think this is done and over, but after a few min. of her standing there looking through the pics she gets my attention.

Me: Yes ma'am can I help you
SC: I don't want these(Pushing a stack of pics about 3inches thick towards me)
    Me: ??????

The reason for the confustion is that she ordered reprints 3x of each negative, and guess what she got? anyone, anyone? Bueler, Bueler? sorry movie flashback, now back regular schedule sc story.

Me: Ma'am you ordered reprints and there all there
SC: I still don't want these! Take them off!!!!11!!!
Me: Ma'am we don't buy back repriints, sorry
    SC: I DON"T WANT THEM!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!
    Me: I don't either.
    SC: I want your MANAGER!!!!
Me: (looking around and see SM) Hey, SM she would like to talk with you.
SM; basicly tells her the same thing
SC: I'M NOT PAYING FOR THIS!! GET ME THE STORE MANAGER.

Now during most of this my DM is working on signing around the store but he comes in and starts working inside our box just before the SC starts getting sucky so,

Me: Ma'am I'll do you one better, this is our DM, Hey DM.
    DM: Yea
Me: This lady wants us to take off these reprints from her order.
DM: HA!! No (goes back to hanging signing)
Me: Well there you go, he outranks the store manager, sorry here you go.
    SC:

The woman then storms off claiming never to come here again, if that would ever happen then I think the world would implode.

If she would have taken the time to go through her negatives and write down what she really wanted then this could have all been avoided. We would have even helped her do it if we had known. What a bitch of a person.

Yay for great managers! Can we clone them?

I have to admit, the last time I used 35mm film, or I should say, the last time my son used film, the CSR went through the envelope with me and took out all the ones that were black. He set them aside so I didn't have to pay for them.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

Fortunately, when the wholesale club did photo processing, we didn't have to deal with that kind of stuff. You got your photos once you paid for them, and I never once had someone go through them and try to demand a partial refund or something because a photo didn't develop the way they thought it should have.

That sounds like faulty film or prints, though. This SC deliberately did not read instructions and the fault is entirely hers.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

well it was intended for the accendental finger in photo ,shakes, or carpet shot(trying to finish the roll of film). normally only like 2 or 3 were "bought back". This only happened about 1 out of 10 rolls of film. this was she ordered 3x of each reprint and she got 3x of each reprint.

When I did the scrapbook from my Alaska cruise, I printed up a lot of photos that I wound up not using. Do I blame "big warehouse store" that printed them. No. I ordered them, so I eat the cost.

I recall places that you only had to pay for the prints that came out good when you had them develope the rolls of film, that was really a great thing.

But if you're making reprints from the negatives, that means you've already had them developed, you've seen a set of prints, and you know which ones are good and which ones aren't which is why you pick & choose negative numbers to have reprinted. Getting back the costs of the bad ones you already knew about and had reprinted anyway to save yourself the time and trouble of picking them out in advance - nope, glad your DM stood his ground.

                Madness takes it's toll....

That's a pretty generous policy, too bad I didn't know that way back when film was still most common. Let's just say I suck at taking photos and I had more all-black or fuzzy pics than I did any decent ones. The way our local lab worked, they wouldn't charge you if the photo was all black, but if there was so much as a spec of lightness, you had to pay for it. And yes, this was WM.

How in the world does someone use enough film for $300 that does not do it professionally? I barely go over $7, maybe $10 if there's a lot that I really want, on the rare instance I need to print out photos from my camera.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

Sadly I saw an auction item that was like that. Thankfully in digital but I think they used up an entire SD card for the photos linky!. If you scrolled through very fast it looked like the item was spinning!
