I don't know if this guy is a "customer." He was one of my watchers and thus one of my customer pool, and if I'm recalling correctly he'd once expressed an interest in commissioning something when he had the money, but he is DEFINITELY not in said pool anymore. I would not take his money under any circumstances after this.
Anyway.
Things you should not do:
1. Tell somebody that your tax return was twice as much as they made during the whole year.
2. Tell somebody that they can't possibly live on the money they're making, and that they need to get a second job as a minimum wage retail worker. (Dur. I never would have known that a second job would make me more money if he hadn't told me so! And it is obviously such a good plan to only seek the very lowest paying employment when attempting to increase my income!)
3. Respond to an explanation of how rude the above is by saying you were being "supportive" and then block me from replying to your comment, so you can passive-aggressively have the last word. Very supportive of you, that.
4. Include in your response the explanation that despite my saying things like "I'm pretty pleased" and "I"m going to call it a good year" and "rather do this than have any other job I've ever worked" you thought I was whining about how little money I made. (This makes item one on this list a MUCH bigger dick move, btw. I mean seriously. If I'm depressed about how little money I have, you think the correct response is to wave around how much you've got?)
You are a dick you do do ANY one of the above, but especially if you do all of the above you will be added to my block list as well, and I will be making absolutely certain that I never, ever, ever do any business of any sort with you.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I'm a mercenary, I will put up with people I dislike intensely, as long as they're willing to pay me, but this twit has crossed a line into a special kind of hell. Congrats to him.
And frankly the ONLY time I want to hear about the vast gobs of money somebody has lying around is when they want to spend those vast gobs commissioning me. Otherwise just shut up and get some manners. That is never appropriate.
P.S. Just because it might come up, I do actually make quite decent money. I also can claim business use of my home, so basically everything I pay in rent is written off, and isn't counted as profit. (It is more complicated than that, but that's the simple version of things.) This means that my income looks much smaller than it actually is. Just mentally subtract your rent (and utilities) from the money you make and you may see what I mean. Then add in a husband who makes more than I do, and our household income is just fine.
But that doesn't make somebody else bragging about how much more they make any less of a dick move. Particularly not when he'd obviously missed that part of my post and was assuming that the amount I'd mentioned really was the entirety of my income.
