While she wasn’t a customer in the “passengers on the ship” kind of way, she was a performer on our stage. Does that count?
There was a married duo - She sang (and I use the term lightly) and the husband played guitar. She was absolutely horrific, both as a singer and a person. Her husband wasn’t too bad. She used to introduce them: “He’s ______, the tall skinny one, and I’m ______, the short fat one”. We used to call them “The tall talented one and the short obnoxious one”.
They were on our ship for 4 months. They did 2 shows a cruise, as well as the “goodbye show”. It was the only show where I’ve seen more than half the crowd walk out of. If people didn’t clap (at all, or loudly enough for her liking), she would start heckling the entire audience…..which just caused more people to leave. She would also do little things like she’d be singing a ballad and be sitting on a stool. Those who were on spotlight would a having to hold it completely still (much harder on your arms than constantly moving). If it dipped for even a split second, she’d bitch about how horrible and irresponsible the crew was.
After a few weeks, we were all familiar with how the show went. Whenever you did spotlight, you’d know to just lock the spotlight for the ballad and unlock it in time for the end. Just to be a bitch one night, halfway through the ballad she bolted across the stage. It took less than half a second for the spotlight to be on her again, but she spent the next 5 minutes of the show complaining to what was left of the audience.
She use to come up to the crew bar afterwards and want to have dinks and hang out with us. The worst part was her poor, poor husband. We all really liked him, but he wouldn’t go anywhere or do anything without her.
