  • Bingo SCs

Bingo clubs in the UK use a membership system, only members can enter the club.
However its very simple and a quick process to become a member.
Its just a matter of filling out a few details and you are signed as a member in less than 2 minutes.
If you look under 21 showing ID is a must, as we operate a think 21 policy and could get fined if we do not follow it.

So here is my first SC story

    I can vouch for her

    CW - Co-worker
    SW- Stupid Woman
    UA - Underage girl
    ME - Me

Two women arrive and want to sign up as new members, one looked about 40, the other was obviously her daughter and looked between 16-18.
So this is how it went .....

CW - (addressing the younger looking girl) Do you have ID ?
SW - WHAT!!!!!!, she is over 18
CW - Okay, however if anyone looks under 21 I need to see ID to prove they are over 18

SW - This is ridiculous she is 28
CW - I'm sorry I cant allow access until I have seen ID
SW - I have her birth certificate and bank cards ?
CW - (Points to huge think 21 poster explaining acceptable forms of ID) and explains can only accept passport, driving licence or ID card.
SW - I want to see the manager NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enter, and repeat what my colleague has said, getting very similar responses, notice the UA has not said a word.
She looked embarrassed, she was hinting to her mother to go home and get her ID.
I tried to get the point accross that you pretty much need ID any were if you look under 25, I even said I still carry ID with me everywhere and I'm 25.
The SW then insults me by saying I look at least 34, anyway they leave.

About 20 minutes later they are back, the girl shows her ID and they sign up as members.
The SW still wants another word with me, she demanded compensation for having to go back home to get ID, complaining about the taxi costs.

WHAT????????, just because your ignorant to think 21 laws you think you've been treated poorly and owed compensation. ( i never said this, it's what I'm thinking)
I politely declined her offer, she would not let it go and started to use foul language stating all the places she has never had this problem.

Does anyone ever get to a part in a customer dispute were the customer has been so abusive and irate you think " Game on" meaning I'm not being nice any more.
When I reach that point I'm quite ruthless because normally at this point I've decided I'm barring the customer, so to me at this point there just a member of the public who I need to remove from the property.

SW - @~"?# we went all the way to (place were they lived) you need to pay our taxi or at least give us free bingo, this is a disgrace.

ME - I'm sorry I cannot do that I'm afraid, if anyone looks under 21 we are governed by law to ask for ID, otherwise we have to refuse entry.

SW - Thats ridiculous, your wrong, I told she was 28 but you wouldn't listen you an arrogant @~?# +:?#* (more language) followed by another insult about my age.

ME - You both need to leave now, I have terminated both your memberships and you are no longer welcome at "ANY" of the 100+ of Company's bingo clubs again.

After a little more bickering they left.

Why the constant insults about me looking old, I'm 25 and look about 25.

Wanna bet she looked 42 when *she* was 25?

Hey now, I had a great 1963 Vauxhall Victor & it didn't look a day over 30... Of course, that was in 1993

As for the OP's comment about "game on" - all. the. time. If we're doing all we can to explain & smooth out the process, and getting nothing but abuse in return, then it's work-to-rule at best, exactly what you ask for as middle ground (which is 99% of the time NOT what they actually need...) and GTFO if you keep trying to get the impossible.

i still cannot fathom going out without my ID.

I think I do it maybe once a year or so. Even when going to work out and I have no pockets and my bf is driving - i just leave it in the car out of sight.

really the only times I don't carry it on a regular basis is when I'm walking the dog around the apartment complex. or walking her down the street.

and if somehow i was dumb enough to forget it... it's my fault no one else's.

I feel naked without my wallet, I can leave my keys(if out with hubs), forget my phone, forget my books/kindle-but I will go back for my wallet!
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Was it only the Mom kicking up the fuss? Cause if the daughter continued to be nice about it, (or just silent), I think it would have been fun to tear up the mother's membership, tell her she's banned, then tell the daughter "welcome to Bingo, go right in"

Good grief, people, it's an ID, carry it. It comes in handy at times. You might need it to prove who you are, what age you are, or for someone to identify your body

            Madness takes it's toll....

I am flat-out paranoid about going out/going driving without my driver's license. The last time I did it was when my wallet had been stolen (It was only about 24 hours before the thief returned/dropped the now cash-free wallet in the mailbox in the dead of night)...And I just happened to get pulled over that day for a "rolling stop" that I didn't think I really did, thus getting me nailed with a ticket for that AND for "no license" >_<

The number of times people have demanded compensation from me for the expenses involved in getting their car out of impound has totally numbed me. I've had people towed for illegal parking who honestly thought that I was responsible for any or all of the following -

-Cab Fare (since they couldn't walk 4 blocks, obviously)
-Gas money (since I added to the distance they'd have to drive)
-Depreciation on their car (what an interesting world you live in)
-Inconvenience (If that's a billable offense, then you're going to immediately pay me that money back plus interest)
-Medical Bills (Because they're sick or have a sick kid, and without their car, I'm making it worse!)

And why did they feel I owed them for such things? It was all my fault! If I hadn't towed them for their illegal parking, they wouldn't BE in this situation!!!!

Sadly, none of the things you listed surprised me in the least. That just seems to be the normal attitude these days. Your car gets towed, blame the tow truck driver. You get a ticket or get arrested, blame the cop. You go to jail, blame the judge or jury. Your water/electricity get turned off for non-payment, blame the utility company. You get a check returned for insuficient funds & have to pay a fee, blame the bani. You flunk out of high school or don't have the grades to get into college, blame the teacher who wouldn't give you a grade you didn't earn, or the college admissions board (or even your parents or home situation).

No one wants to consider that the real reason is the original act they did, not the resulting action taken by someone else. Sure, it hardly seems fair that everyone else parks illegally and never seem to get towed, but you do it just once for five minutes & do get towed. But it's still your fault, not the person who saw your car was illegally parked & towed it. It's just so rare to have someone admit it was their fault in the first place, or think ahead and actually prevent it.

Sorry, anyone else want the soapbox when I'm done, LOL?

Yeah just the mom kicking up a fuss, in hindsight that would have been even better

Some of these idiots make just as big a fuss when their ID is IN THEIR POCKET. Apparently it's a huge inconvenience to reach into the pocket and pull out the wallet. Which they're going to have to do to pay for their drinks/admission/etc. anyway.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

Agh! Yes I hate the compensation people! It just boggles the mind when THEY fuck up and now its your fault they have to deal with consequences. Without fail almost every time I had to deal with someone like that this exchange takes place.

Me: Sir/Maam, please explain how I am responsible for you forgetting your ID/leaving the reciept at home/spilling your drink after you have left the building/forgetting your own access code. . etc, and I will happily grant your request.

Oh the twisting and bending of reality they all attempted to one level or another to make their situation my fault without making themselves looks like idiots. I still had to give them what they wanted half the time though

This statement right here is the one that puzzles me the most in situations that, BY LAW (meaning tobacco, gambling, or other age restricted products or services) require an employee to demand ID from a customer or potential customer.

Is there something about the LAW that makes some people stupid????? or is it just the EW mentality or maybe some brain defect.

when in a stiuation where the employee can and WILL either be fired, jailed, fined, prosecuted, cost their company loads of money, etc. why is it that some people are just just just.........

I can't fathom going out without my ID. I'm an army brat, and I needed my ID for 95% of what most people would consider 'normal' life. Want to go shopping on base at the PX? ID required, doesn't matter what you're buying. Commissary? ID. Getting Gas? ID. School? ID. Getting HOME pass the guards? ID. (okay, perhaps that last bit wasn't normal for most people)
The only time I didn't have ID was on 9/11 of all days, and when I got back to where we lived there were two guards at the only opening to the way in with what looked like M14s. As I was carrying a french horn (not a normal looking case) I pretty much wigged out and got somebody to go get my dad so I could go home.
Now I feel naked without one.
