  • Oh the joys of a game store! (somewhat long)

I work at a board/card game store in a mall, this is quite relevant as you will soon see.

We were finally able to kick someone out of the store the other day for uttering threats to one of our more regular customers. This person that we banned would come up to us and ask us a million questions a minute, I dont mind answering questions normally but these were stupid questions:

SC: Is that facebook (while I am advertising the store on said site)?
SC: Is that facebook (10 seconds later)?
    SC: Is that facebook (again!!!)?

We have talked to him many many times about not asking so many questions. He has also bummed loose change off people, smokes, and food. My boss has been told about this and refused to kick him out because he "was a nice guy" till the other day when he came in and for no reason started yelling "I am going to kill you" to another customer. My boss told him to get the F*** out and never come back. Guess who was back in 2 minutes apologizing. My boss started walking towards him and the guy started almost crying and saying "don't hit me <insert boss name>". He then came back 2 hrs later crying and apologizing. My boss had none of it and kicked him out for good.

Oh the gamer funk in this store. It is coming up to summer and this place has no AC. The funk can be smelled from a good distance away. It is little wonder my boss goes on vacation every summer.

I can't stand people who come in and start ranting about how good they are at <random unknown video game>. We had one young person come in and take up about 20 minutes of my time yakking on and on about the greatness of some random game that I had never heard of. My boss wants me to "indulge" these people, it's awful.

You work in a mall with no air conditioning? Yikes, that has to suck.

I feel a little sorry for the person who was banned, since it sounds like he has troubles with proper social behavior. I can't think of the term I'm looking for right now. However, there is a big difference between being annoying and threatening to kill people. I can't be sympathetic to that kind of behavior, no matter how socially inept a person is.

There is AC in the mall, just none in the store I work in. It can be hell sometimes. I know, I have been working there 5 years.

Any way you could get a big floor-standing fan and stick it in the doorway to blow some of that nice cool air from the mall into your store?

Also, it seems a mite weird to me, if this is an indoor mall, that the entire building isn't on the same utilities. I could see it in a freestanding store, but you don't have to supply your own heat in the winter, do you? Or is it just that they charge you extra for the A/C?

Oh, and SC#1 sounds like he's on the autism spectrum somewhere. Aspergers' or similar. My son is always asking a zillion questions like that, including (often enough) the same ones he's asked five minutes previous, but then he's 5, you kind of expect that from him, but not from an adult.

Just wondering if you've seen any of Wil Weaton's web show about boardgames 'Tabletop'?

Man, I love that show. I really need to step up my boardgame trash-talking. They've raised it to an art form. I actually live in the same city as Wil, I should ask for lessons.

The episode where his wife smacked the table and destroyed the carefully-laid out game was hilarious.

So do I. I don't threaten people, as much as I would love to sometimes.

Yeah I loved the look on everyone's faces there

I also loved the Munchkin episode. "It makes me feel kinda dirty... But I'm gonna let you do it to me anyways."

Sadly people who are into gaming, have a well deserved reputation for lack of hygiene. Sorry you have to deal with that in the summertime.

I went to a convention 4 &5 years ago. The funk from the dealer room was awful. Some of it was so bad, it could strip paint.

I'm autistic, and I know better than to mortally threaten someone. Maybe he was never caught, which is sad, but still...

Yes, those are the infamous catpiss men (and women). You get them in comic shops and select toy stores as well.

We used to have a little hole-in-the-wall computer store and network gaming place near us like that. It was some 40 year old loser and his miserable old mother who ran the place.

On a whim, me and a friend of mine popped in several years ago to do some network gaming as we had nothing else better to do.

The smell of cat piss hit us in the face so we turned around and walked our asses right back out the door. I'm so glad they're out of business now. Both of them miserable jerks, clearly don't care about keeping the place clean of cat urine or hair, plus we once had a guy come into our store to purchase a motherboard after the guy at the cat pee computer store refused to see him the same model because "he might need it".

Thank you for calling Cat Pee Pee Cee... how can I help you?

                          Sorry,

Though I don't know if I'd buy a motherboard that'd been marinating in cat piss funk... imagine the fragrance it could unleash into YOUR home the minute the fan kicked on.....

                            I've got that beat.

I've got that beat. When I was a kid, we had a couple of cats. One of them, the male, peed in our toaster unbenknownst to us.

Then we tried to make toast one morning.

One of the worst smells I've ever encountered. Toasted cat urine.

I have had a male cat do this to me twice. The second time the toaster was still plugged in to the power. I had just gone to bed when there was this large flash of light, a bang and freaked out cats. Figure out what happened when I tried to reset the circuit breakers and they kept tripping until I unplugged the toaster. That tom cat then moved to spraying on the electric stove elements. The stench of burning cat pee was
