  • NEWS FLASH:Ditzy Dingbat Disses Donation Drive as Dishonest Drivel

My warehouse store is in a partnership with a local food bank. For three days, we ask if the customers want to donate an item or cash to the food bank. It's yes or no and either way is fine with me.

I was asking one customer if he'd like to donate to which he says, "Not today, thank you." Then, I get this smug bitty come over and ask, "Well, I'd <store> wants to donate the food, why don't they just do it? Hmmmm?"
I looked at someone who reminds me of the way Dolores Umbrage is described (squat with a toad-like mouth) and said, "Ma'am, this is if others want to donate instead."
She huffs and goes off "well I don't think it's right. I come into a store..." blah blah fg blah.... I just nod my head and turn back to my customer and finish. She blathers on complaining and trying to get my goat. She parted with "They just want the publicity." and walked off.
I wanted to call after her and say "Did you also figure out the sky was blue today?!"
I'm under no illusions. I know why my store is doing this. But you know who doesn't care?

THE PEOPLE WHO NEED THE FOOD!!
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

This reminds me of the people who come in and say, "Prices are so high! I have to pay to belong to the store's customer club? YOU JUST WANT MY MONEY!"

Um, yeah, we're a store. That's kind of what we do.

I think some people just aren't happy unless they've got their panties in a wad over something, no matter how inane or trivial.

She'd probably complain just as much if your company didn't try to give back to the community. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

She'd probably be a lot nicer if she had a good piece, but I don't know of anybody who does charity work.

Face it, there's almost no such thing as doing something for the sake of doing good. Stores do for charity cause it's good publicity, rich people give to charity cause it helps their image & social status, I admit, I give to charity because it makes me feel good to help someone, so yep, I get something out of it. Makes me feel like a good person, and that's a nice way to feel.

        Madness takes it's toll....
        Please have exact change ready.

All of that aside, I just want to scream at people like that to, you know, YELL AT THE MANAGER or some decision maker if they don't like whatever it is they're griping about.

People who take their crap out on hapless employees who are just doing their job are the dregs of humanity.

Aye. Sometimes I honestly think that people like this don't really want a solution, they just want to make themselves feel better at someone else's expense -- and if it's someone who can't answer back, so much the better!

So very true. I've had people complain to me about stuff and then refuse to talk to the department manager who can fix the issue.
              I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

It's times like those that make me wish we could have said something like "Well, than, I'm glad we could be of absolutely NO service to you, as nobody in this store will ever know that you even had a complaint. May you lead an interesting life!"

PS -- that last bit is something most people probably CAN get away with saying, as I can guarantee that the overwhelming bulk of SC's won't know quite what it means...ditto most managers, but to them, it still sounds like yer being kinda nice ^_^

I interpreted this as the food bank wants the publicity. Which is also a duh moment. How can you donate to a cause you don't know exists?

I couldn't agree more. I think they're not really angry about the policy, they're just looking for someone to bully and a reason to do so. Some folks never outgrow their grade school mentality, I guess.

That's happened to me, too, which proves my theory. They only want to bully someone.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
