Yesterday I was looking through our complaints that got sent to the corporate office and one from a few months ago made me laugh.
It was about 1AM and a guest called the front desk saying there was a very loud noise and it was making his whole room vibrate. We were sold out so I didn't have another room to move them to, and they had a cab scheduled to go to the airport at 5AM and wanted to get at least a little sleep.
Their room was over our indoor pool so I thought it might be the pool fan malfunctioning, so I tried to find where to turn it off and couldn't ,so called my boss and he talked me through it ,but it took about an hour all together because it was a weird poorly labeled breaker switch. Anyway, I got it turned off and didn't hear anymore from the guest so I thought that took care of the problem.
But when they came to check out at 5AM they said the noise never stopped, so I didn't charge them for their room and they went off on their vacation.
What was really funny about his complaint to corporate was that he was on the internet doing it while this was all going on at 3AM and it was really whinny. He said "it's so loud we can't sleep and they don't have a room to move us to and the clerk is really nice but she can't find how to make it stop and we have to get up in a couple hours to catch a flight and I just don't know what to do"
I don't know if he actually thought someone was at the corporate office at 3AM and I'm not sure if he thought they could magically stop the noise from the other side of the country or what.
By the way the next day the maintenance guy did find there was a loose vent up there and it was a windy night so I guess it was just flapping all over the place.
