    I respectfully disagree.

Some people will just own a sports car. And it may be all they need in their daily lives, especially if they have no children, or sometimes even if they do. But for vacations, especially if many people are going, the group may need something larger than the sports car, larger than anything anyone in the group owns. Even if the renter is a married guy with a wife and 2 kids, the sports car (say a Ford Mustang) may be perfectly fine for daily life, but just not have the room for a vacation. And so from time to time, for vacations, they will rent something larger.

Yes, he needs a second vehicle, FOR VACATION. Doesn't mean he needs it all the time.

Another possibility is that he and his wife do have a second, larger vehicle, and while it is great for around town, it is not quite reliable enough to take on a long road trip. Doesn't mean they need to replace said larger vehicle, but merely that they need an alternative to what they own for the vacation.

    Just offering some alternative possibilities.
the mustang is a GT car... not a sports car. GT cars work fine for most circumstances. They can fit 4 people in relative comfort (provided some of the adults are small).
take a trip with 2 adults and 2 kids in a mustang: possible... gt car
take a trip with 2 adults and 2 kids in a s2000: impossible... sports car

What OP meant by "sports car" i'm not sure, since many people lump Grand Tourers in with Sports Cars.

Every person I've ever known who had a true "sports car" as their only vehicle ended up either selling it within the year in favor of something more versatile OR buying a "beater" for every day use.

If Miss Prissy feels like she needs to rent a vehicle every time she needs to hold more than two people in her trips, which sounds frequent, she can trade in her fancy sports car for a more suitable vehicle, like a sedan or even the woman's favorite, an SUV! I'm sure that doing so would save her tons of money for the future from not having to rent cars, and have her avoid such "horrible quality" service!
