I was walking through the casino floor on my way out of the building after work a few days ago and I caught notice of this rather animated woman playing one of our machines.
Now, it's no secret that slot players can sometimes have some unusual habits.
Behaviors I've seen include:
- Tapping each payline reel until it settles on a symbol
- Waving a hand across as if trying to use a Jedi mind trick on it
- Massaging the ball at the end of the handle (yes, really)
- Making hand motions as if conducting an orchestra after pressing the spin button
- Drumming on the machine a set number of times before spinning
Anyway you get the idea.
This woman was actually NOT guilty of any of the behaviors described above.
What she was guilty of was abusing this machine on a level I've scarcely seen before.
This was a more traditional slot machine, not a video slot. Like this:

The first thing this woman was doing was rapidly mashing the CRAP out of the "spin" button non stop.
See, the idea is you hit the spin button ONCE, the reels spin and then stop. You get your winnings (if any) and then you hit the spin button again to keep playing. This woman just kept smashing away at the spin button being so loud that it was easily noticeable from 15 feet away.
Also, this machine has a bonus game which gives you free spins. Again, you need only hit the button ONCE to trigger the free spins.
What does this woman do? Smash the spin button EVEN HARDER non stop through the ENTIRE bonus game.
Slot machines are designed to take some wear and tear but this kind of abuse can easily damage the buttons.
I know gamblers can be aggressive sometimes, but this woman was nearly off the charts. Never have I heard someone pound away on a machine so mercilessly.
