  • "Good luck and let me know how it turns out."

Today, a manager relayed this story just after he got off the phone with this..."gentleman." For reasons between <warehouse store> and <popular credit card>, we do not accept <popular credit card>. We have signs on all registers and one coming in the door that state this. Also, my store is owned by a huge corporation (for good and for ill) and is in no way in danger of going under.

Well, this crusader found out we didn't take his card when he attempted to buy something. He refused to use a debit card as he "didn't trust <store>." So he trusts us with his credit card but not his debit. Right. He becomes so irate, he calls the store to complain to. Manager who has nothing to do with the situation and starts ranting and raving.
It gets better. He's going to tell everyone not to shop here. Yup. Everyone. Check your email. He may have sent you something.
But the coup de grace: he's going to sue us. Let's let that soak in: he's going to sue us for not accepting a particular credit card. At this point, the manager said he's done wasting time over a "non-issue" and uttered the thread's title. The SC apparently hung up in a huff.
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

On one point he's actually got a point - you're safer giving out CC than debit because you have more recourse against false credit charges than you do against false debit charges (at least under US bank law).

But only an SC is going to go off just because you don't take his favorite flavor of credit card.

I believe that depends on your bank. But, guess what you can do with a debit card that you can't (or you really SHOULDN'T because the interest on it SUCKS HARD) with your credit?

That's right! You can get cash out of an ATM, and then complete the transaction without either of your cards getting compromised!

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

Which is why Paypal has such appeal for online use. I find it amusing when someone fails to read the bloody doors to most places that tell you exactly what cards they take. In my neck of the woods, the most excluded are the orange and brown (at least it used to be) and the aqua color one. I've seen idiots try using them and then gripe because those two aren't accepted.

Hey pay up with the double circles already! You're holding up the line and since I don't work here, I don't have to watch my brain to mouth filter!
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.
