  • Temper Tantrum(number eleventybillion?)

Ok, so I only heard about this second or third hand, but it was apparently talked about during the store meeting for the day, so I don't know if this is the right spot?

BG: So, our store does Price/Ad matching, however not on everything. I think the things we don't match are fairly typical(deals that require a store card/loyalty card for example) as well as produce(so many different suppliers...)

Also, "B" the one who dealt most directly with this guy, was only fairly recently promoted to her current position, is still quite young, and is essentially the "Kid Sister" to the entire store.

So, the other day this SC was wanting to get some produce item(I think it was peaches?) price matched. "B" who was the quasi manager in charge of the lanes that day, told him we couldn't.

He flipped out. Screaming insults and incoherently ranting at B about it, as well as personal insults to her by some accounts, to the point where she was in tears by the end of it, He picked up and THREW a carton of strawberries toward our cafe area. He was then escorted out by AP.

This is the part that REALLY boggles my mind. See, he had used an employee discount card(Dependent version) so he was apparently married to someone that works at either my store, or another one!

Good grief. I hope you all find out who it was. Someone needs to have a little family chat, evidently.

He should've been arrested. You do not behave like that, ever.

Yeah, it does boggle the mind that someone would want to marry that jackass!

Seriously, TantrumMan could get his wife in serious trouble when he pulls crap like this. I hope she doesn't lose her job because of him.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

I'd also expect that using an employee/family discount would supercede any kind of price match, anyways, wouldn't it?

arrested, AND the family member counseled - possibly fired if it's a repeat behavior.

just because it's the hubby and not the employee doesn't matter.

            WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

If my significant other ever dared to treat an employee of any place that way, I would be ripping out their heart and stuffing it down their throat.

Okay, not literally, but I would make them cry via verbal lashing. That is just not okay. Ever. Especially then throwing produce around. *ugh*

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

I have to disagree on firing the employee. His family member's action had nothing to do with his job. Take away that person's discount, ban them from the store, fine, but they are responsible for their own actions.

It's akin to the old military way of, if a wife happened to get a traffic ticket or do something else stupid, (nothing to do with anyone but her), her husband would be called in and told he'd better learn to "control his wife" if he wanted to stay in the military.

Marrying someone does not give you control over all their actions. Yes, they should not do things that reflect badly on their spouses, but you can't force them to.

The problem is Merriweather is that many of those family discount cards have a paper that need to be signed with the issue-ence. If they are misused by a family member...according to some papers if they screwed up bad enough it could mean your termination.

I'm not saying they probably couldn't be fired, just that IMO they shouldn't be. Take the discounts from family members, fine. But it simply isn't reasonable to expect one adult to have total control over another adult's actions.

And I'm going to drop any other comments before this heads toward fratching.

At the store I worked at, we were given a heads up if a dependent was behaving badly while using their discount card. Next time, both the employee and the dependent would lose their cards, until corrective actions were taken. Termination was only considered if the dependent was a repeat offender and the employee was found to be enabling it.

And yes, we had one. New hire door greeter, an older lady. "Ooh, my son would never have done that! He's such a good boy," was always the response when told that her son was throwing tantrums that would make even a 2 year old sit up and say, "Whoa, Dude, that's taking it too far!" This "good boy" was a 30 year old man with no disabilities except a huge sense of entitlement. Sadly, it was determined that as long as she worked for the store, he'd be there and make things hell for the rest of us, so she was let go. (Banning him did no good, because she'd just let him in on her side... and thus a tantrum was formed.)
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

I found out some more information today. I don't know about actually arrested, but charges ARE being filed and he's banned from the store. (good riddance)

Oh, and the fruit was apparently blueberries and bananas that was thrown, instead of strawberries.
